Then the prophet Isaiah came to King Hezekiah and asked him, “Where did these men come from and what did they say to you? ”
Hezekiah replied, “They came from a distant country, from Babylon.”
When they looked from a distance, they could barely recognize him. They wept aloud, and each man tore his robe and threw dust into the air and on his head.
When the ram’s horn blasts, he snorts defiantly.[fn]
He smells the battle from a distance;

Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about.
I have planned it; I will also do it.
I am about to bring a nation
from far away against you,
house of Israel.
This is the LORD’s declaration.
It is an established nation,
an ancient nation,
a nation whose language you do not know
and whose speech you do not understand.
“Am I a God who is only near” — this is the LORD’s declaration — “and not a God who is far away?
