He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. When you find him, report back to me so that I too can go and worship him.”[fn]
After hearing the king, they went on their way. And there it was — the star they had seen at its rising. It led them until it came and stopped above the place where the child was.
saying, “Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, because those who intended to kill the child are dead.”
“For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command.[fn] I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this! ’ and he does it.”
“Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”[fn]
As these men were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?
At that time Jesus passed through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick and eat some heads of grain.
“Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that person’s last condition is worse than the first. That’s how it will also be with this evil generation.”
“But, so we won’t offend them, go to the sea, cast in a fishhook, and take the first fish that you catch. When you open its mouth you’ll find a coin.[fn] Take it and give it to them for me and you.”
“What do you think? If someone has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, won’t he leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go and search for the stray?
telling them, “Go into the village ahead of you. At once you will find a donkey tied there with her colt. Untie them and bring them to me.
“Go then to where the roads exit the city and invite everyone you find to the banquet.’
As Jesus left and was going out of the temple, his disciples came up and called his attention to its buildings.
“The wise ones answered, ‘No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell oil, and buy some for yourselves.’
“the man who had received five talents went, put them to work, and earned five more.
“Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!
They went and secured the tomb by setting a seal on the stone and placing the guards.
“Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; you will see him there.’ Listen, I have told you.”
As they were on their way, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened.
The eleven disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them.
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of[fn] all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
She went and reported to those who had been with him, as they were mourning and weeping.
After this, he appeared in a different form to two of them walking on their way into the country.
Both were righteous in God’s sight, living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.
When it was day, he went out and made his way to a deserted place. But the crowds were searching for him. They came to him and tried to keep him from leaving them.
“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins” — he told the paralyzed man, “I tell you: Get up, take your stretcher, and go home.”
Jesus went with them, and when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to tell him, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, since I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.
“For I too am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under my command. I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
Afterward he was on his way to a town called Nain. His disciples and a large crowd were traveling with him.
He replied to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy[fn] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,
“As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit.
Late in the day, the Twelve approached and said to him, “Send the crowd away, so that they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging, because we are in a deserted place here.”
“You give them something to eat,” he told them.
“We have no more than five loaves and two fish,” they said, “unless we go and buy food for all these people.”
When the days were coming to a close for him to be taken up, he determined[fn] to journey to Jerusalem.
He sent messengers ahead of himself, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for him.
