“The landowner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Master, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from? ’

He went to his hometown and began to teach them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?

“And his sisters, aren’t they all with us? So where does he get all these things? ”

The disciples said to him, “Where could we get enough bread in this desolate place to feed such a crowd? ”

“Did John’s baptism come from heaven, or was it of human origin? ”

They discussed it among themselves, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him? ’

When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. “Where did this man get these things? ” they said. “What is this wisdom that has been given to him, and how are these miracles performed by his hands?

His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough bread here in this desolate place to feed these people? ”

“David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How, then, can he be his son? ” And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.

“How could this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

“once the homeowner gets up and shuts the door. Then you will stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up for us! ’ He will answer you, ‘I don’t know you or where you’re from.’

“But he will say, ‘I tell you, I don’t know you or where you’re from. Get away from me, all you evildoers! ’

So they answered that they did not know its origin.

“How do you know me? ” Nathanael asked.

“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,” Jesus answered.

When the headwaiter tasted the water (after it had become wine), he did not know where it came from ​— ​though the servants who had drawn the water knew. He called the groom

“The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

“Sir,” said the woman, “you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this ‘living water’?

So when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward him, he asked Philip, “Where will we buy bread so that these people can eat? ”

“But we know where this man is from. When the Messiah comes, nobody will know where he is from.”

“Even if I testify about myself,” Jesus replied, “my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I’m going. But you don’t know where I come from or where I’m going.

“We know that God has spoken to Moses. But this man ​— ​we don’t know where he’s from.”

He went back into the headquarters and asked Jesus, “Where are you from? ” But Jesus did not give him an answer.

What is the source of wars and fights among you? Don’t they come from your passions that wage war within you?[fn]

“Remember then how far you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you[fn] and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

Then one of the elders asked me, “Who are these people in white robes, and where did they come from? ”
