b. metaphorically, to take away altogether or entirely: τάς ἁμαρτίας (with which one is, as it were, enveloped), the guilt of sin, i. e. to expiate perfectly, Hebrews 10:11; τήν ἐλπίδα, passive, Acts 27:20.
