Then Jesus told him, “See that you don’t tell anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him.

“Why then,” they asked him, “did Moses command us to give divorce papers and to send her away? ”

“Teacher, Moses said, if a man dies, having no children, his brother is to marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

“The scribes and the Pharisees are seated in the chair of Moses.

telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”[fn]

“For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother; and Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.

Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

He replied to them, “What did Moses command you? ”

“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife behind but no child, that man should take the wife and raise up offspring for his brother.

“And as for the dead being raised ​— ​haven’t you read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the burning bush, how God said to him: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?

And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were finished, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord

Then he ordered him to tell no one: “But go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses commanded for your cleansing as a testimony to them.”

Suddenly, two men were talking with him ​— ​Moses and Elijah.

As the two men were departing from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it’s good for us to be here. Let’s set up three shelters: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” ​— ​not knowing what he was saying.

“But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’

“But he told him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother has a wife, and dies childless, his brother should take the wife and produce offspring for his brother.

“Moses even indicated in the passage about the burning bush that the dead are raised, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.

Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted for them the things concerning himself in all the Scriptures.

He told them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you ​— ​that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law (and so did the prophets): Jesus the son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”

“In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say? ”

They ridiculed him: “You’re that man’s disciple, but we’re Moses’s disciples.

“Moses said:[fn] The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you.

Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We heard him speaking blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

“For we heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”

“At this time Moses was born, and he was beautiful in God’s sight. He was cared for in his father’s home for three months.

“So Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his speech and actions.

“When he heard this, Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.

“When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight. As he was approaching to look at it, the voice of the Lord came:

“This Moses, whom they rejected when they said, Who appointed you a ruler and a judge? ​— ​this one God sent as a ruler and a deliverer through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

“This is the Moses who said to the Israelites: God[fn] will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers.

“They told Aaron: Make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what’s happened to him.

“Our ancestors had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern he had seen.

“Everyone who believes is justified[fn] through him from everything that you could not be justified from through the law of Moses.
