“Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?
“If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you — you of little faith?
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.
“It is enough for a disciple to become like his teacher and a slave like his master. If they called the head of the house ‘Beelzebul,’ how much more the members of his household!
“Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

For if you were cut off from your native wild olive tree and against nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these — the natural branches — be grafted into their own olive tree?
Therefore, let us no longer judge one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in the way of your brother or sister.
And you are arrogant! Shouldn’t you be filled with grief and remove from your congregation the one who did this?
As it is, to have legal disputes against one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
Were you called while a slave? Don’t let it concern you. But if you can become free, by all means take the opportunity.[fn]
If others have this right to receive benefits from you, don’t we even more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right; instead, we endure everything so that we will not hinder the gospel of Christ.
For my part I have used none of these rights, nor have I written these things that they may be applied in my case. For it would be better for me to die than for anyone to deprive me of my boast!
I wish all of you spoke in tongues,[fn] but even more that you prophesied. The person who prophesies is greater than the person who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be built up.
As a result, you should instead forgive and comfort him. Otherwise, he may be overwhelmed by excessive grief.
