ββ. to Jesus as the Messiah, since by his death he acquired a special ownership in mankind, and after his resurrection was exalted to a partnership in the divine administration (this force of the word when applied to Jesus appears especially in Acts 10:36; Romans 14:8; 1 Corinthians 7:22; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Philippians 2:9-11): Ephesians 4:5; with the article κύριος, Mark 16:19; Acts 9:1; Romans 14:8; 1 Corinthians 4:5; 1 Corinthians 6:13; 1 Corinthians 7:10, 12, 34; 1 Corinthians 9:5, 14; 1 Corinthians 10:22; 1 Corinthians 11:26; (1 Corinthians 16:22 G L T Tr WH); Philippians 4:5; (2 Timothy 4:22 T Tr WH); Hebrews 2:3 (cf. Buttmann, 155 (136)); 1 Thessalonians 3:11 (R G), 1 Thessalonians 3:13 (Rec.); 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 2 Thessalonians 2:1, 14, 16; 2 Thessalonians 3:6 ((ἡμῶν)); 1 Corinthians 1:2; 2 Corinthians 1:3; Galatians 6:18 (WH brackets ἡμῶν); Ephesians 1:3; Ephesians 6:24; Romans 16:24 (R G); 1 Timothy 6:3, 14; Philemon 1:25 (T WH omit ἡμῶν); Philippians 4:23 (G L T Tr WH omit ἡμῶν), etc.; Ἰησοῦς Χριστός κύριος ἡμῶν, Romans 1:4; and Χριστός Ἰησης κύριος (ἡμῶν), Colossians 2:6; Ephesians 3:11; 1 Timothy 1:2; 2 Timothy 1:2; κύριος καί σωτήρ, 2 Peter 3:2 (cf. Buttmann, 155 (136)); with Ἰησοῦς Χριστός added, 2 Peter 3:18; without the article, simply κύριος: 1 Corinthians 7:22, 25; 1 Corinthians 10:21; 1 Corinthians 16:10; 2 Corinthians 3:17; 2 Corinthians 12:1; 2 Timothy 2:24; James 5:11; 2 Peter 3:10; κύριος κυρίων, i. e. Supreme Lord (cf. Winers Grammar, § 36, 2; (Buttmann, § 123, 12)): Revelation 19:16 (cf. in α. above; of God, Deuteronomy 10:17); with prepositions: ἀπό κυρίου, Colossians 3:24; κατά κύριον, 2 Corinthians 11:17; πρός κύριον, 2 Corinthians 3:16; σύν κυρίῳ, 1 Thessalonians 4:17; ὑπό κύριον, 2 Thessalonians 2:13; on the phrase ἐν κυρίῳ, frequent in Paul, and except in his writings found only in Revelation 14:13, see ἐν, I. 6 b., p. 211b. The appellation κύριος, applied to Christ, passed over in Luke and John even into historic narrative, where the words and works of Jesus prior to his resurrection are related: Luke 7:13; Luke 10:1; Luke 11:39; Luke 12:42; Luke 13:15; Luke 17:5; Luke 22:31 (R G L Tr brackets); John 4:1 (here T Tr marginal reading Ἰησοῦς); John 6:23; John 11:2. There is nothing strange in the appearance of the term in the narrative of occurrences after his resurrection: Luke 24:34; John 20:2, 18, 20, 25; John 21:7, 12.
d. There are some who hold that Paul (except in his quotations from the O. T. viz. Romans 4:8; Romans 9:28; Romans 11:34; 1 Corinthians 1:31; 1 Corinthians 2:16; 1 Corinthians 3:20; 1 Corinthians 10:26; 2 Corinthians 6:17; 2 Corinthians 10:17; 2 Timothy 2:19) uses the title κύριος everywhere not of God, but of Christ. But, to omit instances where the interpretation is doubtful, as 1 Corinthians 7:25; 2 Corinthians 8:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:6; 2 Thessalonians 3:16 ( κύριος τῆς εἰρήνης, cf. Θεός τῆς εἰρήνης, 1 Thessalonians 5:23; but most of the blessings of Christianity are derived alike from God and from Christ), it is better at least in the words ἑκάστῳ ὡς κύριος ἔδωκεν, 1 Corinthians 3:5, to understand God as referred to on account of what follows, especially on account of the words κατά τήν χάριν τοῦ Θεοῦ τήν δοθεῖσαν μοι in 1 Corinthians 3:10. On the other hand, κρινόμενοι ὑπό τοῦ κυρίου in 1 Corinthians 11:32 must certainly, I think, be taken of Christ, on account of 1 Corinthians 10:22, cf. 1 Corinthians 10:21. Cf. Gabler, Kleinere theol. Schriften, Bd. i., p. 186ff; Winer, De sensu vocum κύριος et κύριος in actis et epistolis apostolorum. Erlang. 1828; Wesselus Scheffer, diss. theol. exhibens disquisitionem de vocis κύριος absolute positae in N. T. usu. Lugd. 1846 (a monograph I have not seen); (Stuart in the Bib. Repos. for Oct. 1831, pp. 733-776; cf. Weiss, Biblical Theol. d. N. T. § 76; Cremer, Biblical-theol. Lex. under the word; Abbot in the Journal of the Society for Biblical Literature and Exegesis for June and December, 1881, p. 126ff, June and December, 1883, p. 101f On the use of a capital initial, see WH. Introductory § 414). The word does not occur in the (Epistle to Titus (critical editions), the) First Epistle of John (nor in the Second or the Third; for in 2 John 1:3 κυρίου is dropped by the critical editors. Synonym: see δεσπότης, at the end).

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:2 -

To the church of God which is in Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, [fn]saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord G2962 Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:3 -

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord G2962 Jesus Christ.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:7 - so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you eagerly await the revelation of our Lord G2962 Jesus Christ,
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:8 - who will also [fn]confirm you to the end, blameless on the day of our Lord G2962 Jesus Christ.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:9 - God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord G2962.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:10 -

Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord G2962 Jesus Christ, that you all [fn]agree and that there be no [fn]divisions among you, but that you be [fn]made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 1:31 - so that, just as it is written: “LET THE ONE WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD G2962.”
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 2:8 - the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord G2962 of glory;
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 2:16 - For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD G2962, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 3:5 -

What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord G2962 gave opportunity to each one.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 3:20 - and again, “THE LORD G2962 KNOWS THE THOUGHTS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE useless.”
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 4:4 - For I am not aware of anything against myself; however I am not vindicated by this, but the one who examines me is the Lord G2962.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 4:5 - Therefore do not go on [fn]passing judgment before [fn]the time, but wait until the Lord G2962 comes, who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of human hearts; and then praise will come to each person from God.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 4:17 - For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord G2962, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 4:19 - But I will come to you soon, if the Lord G2962 wills, and I shall find out, not the [fn]words of those who are arrogant, but their power.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 5:4 - In the name of our Lord G2962 Jesus, when you are assembled, and [fn]I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord G2962 Jesus,
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 5:5 - I have decided [fn]to turn such a person over to Satan for the destruction of his [fn]body, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the [fn]Lord G2962.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:11 - Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord G2962 Jesus Christ and [fn]in the Spirit of our God.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:13 - Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, however God will do away with both [fn]of them. But the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord G2962, and the Lord G2962 is for the body.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:14 - Now God has not only raised the Lord G2962, but will also raise us up through His power.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 6:17 - But the one who joins himself to the Lord G2962 is one spirit with Him.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:10 -

But to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Lord G2962, that the wife is not to leave her husband

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:12 -

But to the rest I say, not the Lord G2962, that if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she consents to live with him, he must not [fn]divorce her.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:17 -

Only, as the Lord G2962 has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this way let him walk. And so I direct in all the churches.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:22 - For the one who was called in the Lord G2962 as a slave, is the Lord’s G2962 freed person; likewise the one who was called as free, is Christ’s slave.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:25 -

Now concerning virgins, I have no command of the Lord G2962, but I am offering direction as one who [fn]by the mercy of the Lord G2962 is trustworthy.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:32 -

But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the things of the Lord G2962, how he may please the Lord G2962;

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:34 - and his interests are divided. The woman who is unmarried, and the virgin, is concerned about the things of the Lord G2962, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 7:35 - I say this for your own benefit, not to put a restraint on you, but [fn]to promote what is appropriate and to secure undistracted devotion to the Lord G2962.

A wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband [fn]dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord G2962.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 8:5 - For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords G2962,

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 9:1 -

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord G2962? Are you not my work in the Lord G2962?

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 9:2 - If I am not an apostle to others, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord G2962.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 9:5 - [fn]Do we not have a right to take along a [fn]believing wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord G2962, and [fn]Cephas?
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 9:14 - So also the Lord G2962 directed those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 10:21 - You cannot drink the cup of the Lord G2962 and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord G2962 and the table of demons.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 10:22 - Or do we provoke the Lord G2962 to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we?
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 10:26 - FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORDS G2962, AND [fn]ALL IT CONTAINS.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 10:28 - But if anyone says to you, “This is meat sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it, for the sake of that one who informed you and for the sake of conscience.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:11 - However, in the Lord G2962, neither is woman [fn]independent of man, nor is man [fn]independent of woman.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:23 -

For I received from the Lord G2962 that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord G2962 Jesus, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread;

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:26 - For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s G2962 death until He comes.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:27 -

Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord G2962 in an unworthy way, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord G2962.

Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:29 - For the one who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not properly recognize the [fn]body.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 11:32 - But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord G2962 so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 12:3 - Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking [fn]by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is [fn]accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord G2962,” except [fn]by the Holy Spirit.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 12:5 - And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord G2962.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 14:21 - In the [fn]Law it is written: “BY MEN OF STRANGE TONGUES AND BY THE LIPS OF STRANGERS I WILL SPEAK TO THIS PEOPLE, AND EVEN SO THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO ME,” says the Lord G2962.
Unchecked Copy Box1Co 14:37 -

If anyone thinks that he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s G2962 commandment.
