“Don’t store up for yourselves treasures[fn] on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal.
“But know this: If the homeowner had known what time[fn] the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into.
“Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Make money-bags for yourselves that won’t grow old, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.

He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.
no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.
For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark, for this day to surprise you like a thief.
