“Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

He answered them, “Why do you break God’s commandment because of your tradition?

“Why do you ask me about what is good? ”[fn] he said to him. “There is only one who is good.[fn] If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

“Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest? ”

“This is the greatest and most important[fn] command.

“All the Law and the Prophets depend[fn] on these two commands.”

But Jesus told them, “He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.

One of the scribes approached. When he heard them debating and saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which command is the most important of all? ”

“The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”

Both were righteous in God’s sight, living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.
