“Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
He also said to them, “You have a fine way of invalidating God’s command in order to set up[fn] your tradition!
But Jesus told them, “He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.
“You know the commandments: Do not murder; do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not bear false witness; do not defraud; honor your father and mother.”
One of the scribes approached. When he heard them debating and saw that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which command is the most important of all? ”
“The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.”
Both were righteous in God’s sight, living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.
“But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.
“You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not bear false witness; honor your father and mother.”
