“Give to the one who asks you, and don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
“Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask him.
“Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door[fn] will be opened to you.
“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.
Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached him with her sons. She knelt down to ask him for something.
Jesus answered, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? ”[fn]
“We are able,” they said to him.
The chief priests and the elders, however, persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to execute Jesus.
He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it[fn] be released.
When Herodias’s own daughter[fn] came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me whatever you want, and I’ll give it to you.”
He promised her with an oath: “Whatever you ask me I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”

Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Sanhedrin who was himself looking forward to the kingdom of God, came and boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body.
He asked for a writing tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.

But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that he be crucified, and their voices[fn] won out.
and released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.
Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would ask him, and he would give you living water.”
“Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.
“In that day you will not ask me anything. Truly I tell you, anything you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.
