He bent the heavens and came down,

for they will hear of your great name,

So David did not bring the ark of God home[fn] to the city of David; instead, he diverted it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath.

David built houses for himself in the city of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.

They brought the ark of God and placed it inside the tent David had pitched for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings in God’s presence.

“Go and say to David, ‘This is what the LORD says: I am offering you three choices. Choose one of them for yourself, and I will do it to you.’ ”

Now David had brought the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place[fn] he had set up for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem,

Even for the foreigner who is not of your people Israel

but has come from a distant land

because of your great name

and your strong hand and outstretched arm:

when he comes and prays toward this temple,

and who has shown favor to me before the king, his counselors, and all his powerful officers. So I took courage because I was strengthened by the hand of the LORD my God,[fn] and I gathered Israelite leaders to return with me.

Though we are slaves, our God has not abandoned us in our slavery. He has extended grace to us in the presence of the Persian kings, giving us relief, so that we can rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

He alone stretches out the heavens

and treads on the waves of the sea.[fn]

For he has stretched out his hand against God

and has arrogantly opposed the Almighty.

My feet have followed in his tracks;

I have kept to his way and not turned aside.

They push the needy off the road;

the poor of the land are forced into hiding.

He stretches the northern skies over empty space;

he hangs the earth on nothing.

If my step has turned from the way,

my heart has followed my eyes,

or impurity has stained my hands,

Be careful that no one lures you with riches;[fn]

do not let a large ransom[fn] lead you astray.

Who fixed its dimensions? Certainly you know!

Who stretched a measuring line across it?

I call on you, God,

because you will answer me;

listen closely to me; hear what I say.

He bent the heavens and came down,

total darkness beneath his feet.

Though they intend to harm[fn] you

and devise a wicked plan, they will not prevail.

Do not hide your face from me;

do not turn your servant away in anger.

You have been my helper;

do not leave me or abandon me,

God of my salvation.
