Then Abraham took curds[fn] and milk, as well as the calf that he had prepared, and set them before the men. He served[fn] them as they ate under the tree.

“His eyes are darker than wine,

and his teeth are whiter than milk.

“and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and to bring them from that land to a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey ​— ​the territory of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

“And I have promised you that I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites ​— ​a land flowing with milk and honey.

“When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hethites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites,[fn] which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you must carry out this ceremony in this month.

“Bring the best of the firstfruits of your land to the house of the LORD your God.

“You must not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

“Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go up with you because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”

“And I promised you: You will inherit their land, since I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the LORD your God who set you apart from the peoples.

They reported to Moses, “We went into the land where you sent us. Indeed it is flowing with milk and honey, and here is some of its fruit.

“If the LORD is pleased with us, he will bring us into this land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and give it to us.

“Is it not enough that you brought us up from a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness? Do you also have to appoint yourself as ruler over us?

“When I bring them into the land I swore to give their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey, they will eat their fill and prosper.[fn] They will turn to other gods and worship them, despising me and breaking my covenant.

rams from Bashan, and goats,

with the choicest grains of wheat;

For the Israelites wandered in the wilderness forty years until all the nation’s men of war who came out of Egypt had died off because they did not obey the LORD. So the LORD vowed never to let them see the land he had sworn to their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

He said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink for I am thirsty.” She opened a container of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again.

He asked for water; she gave him milk.

She brought him cream in a majestic bowl.

Then Samuel took a young lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the LORD. He cried out to the LORD on behalf of Israel, and the LORD answered him.

“Also take these ten portions of cheese to the field commander.[fn] Check on the well-being of your brothers and bring a confirmation from them.

“Did you not pour me out like milk

and curdle me like cheese?

His body is[fn] well fed,[fn]

and his bones are full of marrow.[fn]

there will be enough goat’s milk for your food —

food for your household

and nourishment for your female servants.

For the churning of milk produces butter,

and twisting a nose draws blood,

and stirring up anger produces strife.

Your lips drip sweetness like the honeycomb, my bride.

Honey and milk are under your tongue.

The fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

I have come to my garden ​— ​my sister, my bride.

I gather[fn] my myrrh with my spices.

I eat my honeycomb with my honey.

I drink my wine with my milk.

Eat, friends!

Drink, be intoxicated with caresses![fn]

His eyes are like doves

beside flowing streams,

washed in milk

and set like jewels.[fn]

and from the abundant milk they give

he will eat curds,

for every survivor in the land will eat curds and honey.

Who is he trying to teach?

Who is he trying to instruct?

Infants[fn] just weaned from milk?

Babies[fn] removed from the breast?

“Come, everyone who is thirsty,

come to the water;

and you without silver,

come, buy, and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk

without silver and without cost!

You will nurse on the milk of nations,

and nurse at the breast of kings;

you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior

and Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

I answered, “Amen, LORD.”

“You gave them this land you swore to give to their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Her dignitaries were brighter than snow,

whiter than milk;

their bodies[fn] were more ruddy than coral,

their appearance like lapis lazuli.

On that day I swore[fn] to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most beautiful of all lands.

“However, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land I had given them ​— ​the most beautiful of all lands, flowing with milk and honey ​— ​

therefore I am about to give you to the people of the east as a possession. They will set up their encampments and pitch their tents among you. They will eat your fruit and drink your milk.

In that day

the mountains will drip with sweet wine,

and the hills will flow with milk.

All the streams of Judah will flow with water,

and a spring will issue from the LORD’s house,

watering the Valley of Acacias.[fn]
