But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, “You are about to die because of the woman you have taken, for she is a married woman.”[fn]

You will no longer be called Deserted,

and your land will not be called Desolate;

instead, you will be called My Delight Is in Her,[fn]

and your land Married;[fn]

for the LORD delights in you,

and your land will be married.

“ ‘Return, you faithless children ​— ​this is the LORD’s declaration ​— ​for I am your master,[fn] and I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

“This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt ​— ​my covenant that they broke even though I am their master”[fn] ​— ​the LORD’s declaration.

Judah has acted treacherously, and a detestable act has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the LORD’s sanctuary,[fn] which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.[fn]
