“Then they will hand you over to be persecuted, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name.
“This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world[fn] as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
“For at that time there will be great distress,[fn] the kind that hasn’t taken place from the beginning of the world until now and never will again.
“If anyone tells you then, ‘See, here is the Messiah! ’ or, ‘Over here! ’ do not believe it.
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels[fn] with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
“Then he will also say to those on the left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!
“Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you? ’

Then Jesus said to them, “Tonight all of you will fall away because of me, for it is written:
I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he told the disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
He said to them, “I am deeply grieved[fn] to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me.”
Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? See, the time is near. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
“Friend,” Jesus asked him, “why have you come? ”[fn]
Then they came up, took hold of Jesus, and arrested him.
Then Jesus told him, “Put your sword back in its place because all who take up the sword will perish by the sword.
“But all this has happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and ran away.
Then the high priest tore his robes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? See, now you’ve heard the blasphemy.
Then he started to curse and to swear with an oath, “I don’t know the man! ” Immediately a rooster crowed,
Then Judas, his betrayer, seeing that Jesus had been condemned, was full of remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders.
Then what was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: They took[fn] the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him whose price was set by the Israelites,
Then Pilate said to him, “Don’t you hear how much they are testifying against you? ”
Then he released Barabbas to them and, after having Jesus flogged, handed him over to be crucified.

Then two criminals[fn] were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left.
He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. Then Pilate ordered that it[fn] be released.
Then Jesus told them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”
“But the time[fn] will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast on that day.
“But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.
“When you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be” (let the reader understand), “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.
“Then if anyone tells you, ‘See, here is the Messiah! See, there! ’ do not believe it.
“He will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
“But the time[fn] will come when the groom will be taken away from them — then they will fast in those days.”
“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,’ when you yourself don’t see the beam of wood in your eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the splinter in your brother’s eye.
“When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it roams through waterless places looking for rest, and not finding rest, it then[fn] says, ‘I’ll go back to my house that I came from.’
“Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that person’s last condition is worse than the first.”
