and when they had left they talked with each other and said, “This man is not doing anything to deserve death or imprisonment.”

“So I urge you to take some food. For this is for your survival, since none of you will lose a hair from your head.”

But he shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no harm.

After three days he called together the leaders of the Jews. When they had gathered he said to them, “Brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
