After he had suffered, he also presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time? ”
They were astounded and amazed, saying,[fn] “Look, aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?
They were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean? ”
“And it will be in the last days, says God,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all people;
then your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
“For David says of him:
I saw the Lord ever before me;
because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
“For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says:
The Lord declared to my Lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt[fn] generation! ”
A man who was lame from birth was being carried there. He was placed each day at the temple gate called Beautiful, so that he could beg from those entering the temple.

The crowds were all paying attention to what Philip said, as they listened and saw the signs he was performing.
A man named Simon had previously practiced sorcery in that city and amazed the Samaritan people, while claiming to be somebody great.
They all paid attention to him, from the least of them to the greatest, and they said, “This man is called the Great Power of God.”[fn]
saying, “Give me this power also so that anyone I lay hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”
An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: “Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (This is the desert road.[fn])
The eunuch said to Philip, “I ask you, who is the prophet saying this about — himself or someone else? ”
Falling to the ground, he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? ”
All who heard him were astounded and said, “Isn’t this the man in Jerusalem who was causing havoc for those who called on this name and came here for the purpose of taking them as prisoners to the chief priests? ”
In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which is translated Dorcas). She was always doing good works and acts of charity.
Peter said to them, “You know it’s forbidden for a Jewish man to associate with or visit a foreigner, but God has shown me that I must not call any person impure or unclean.
“I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell. Striking Peter on the side, he woke him up and said, “Quick, get up! ” And the chains fell off his wrists.
“Get dressed,” the angel told him, “and put on your sandals.” And he did. “Wrap your cloak around you,” he told him, “and follow me.”
“You’re out of your mind! ” they told her. But she kept insisting that it was true, and they said, “It’s his angel.”
After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of encouragement for the people, you can speak.”
“Now as John was completing his mission, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But one is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.’
“Therefore he also says in another passage, You will not let your Holy One see decay.
But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to contradict what Paul was saying, insulting him.
When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted, saying in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form! ”
