God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

God blessed them: “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the waters of the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”

Then God said, “Let us make man[fn] in[fn] our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl[fn] on the earth.”

God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.”

“The fear and terror of you will be in every living creature on the earth, every bird of the sky, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the sea. They are placed under your authority.

Then the LORD changed the wind to a strong west[fn] wind, and it carried off the locusts and blew them into the Red Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the territory of Egypt.

So he led the people around toward the Red Sea along the road of the wilderness. And the Israelites left the land of Egypt in battle formation.

“Tell the Israelites to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you must camp in front of Baal-zephon, facing it by the sea.

The water heaped up at the blast from your nostrils;

the currents stood firm like a dam.

The watery depths congealed in the heart of the sea.

But you blew with your breath,

and the sea covered them.

They sank like lead

in the mighty waters.

When Pharaoh’s horses with his chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the water of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground.

Miriam sang to them:

Sing to the LORD,

for he is highly exalted;

he has thrown the horse

and its rider into the sea.

Then they set out from Mount Hor by way of the Red Sea to bypass the land of Edom, but the people became impatient because of the journey.

They traveled from Pi-hahiroth[fn] and crossed through the middle of the sea into the wilderness. They took a three-day journey into the Wilderness of Etham and camped at Marah.

They traveled from Elim and camped by the Red Sea.
