“Then I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you? ’ She responded, ‘The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.’ So I put the ring on her nose and the bracelets on her wrists.
And he told the first one, “When my brother Esau meets you and asks, ‘Who do you belong to? Where are you going? And whose animals are these ahead of you? ’
Then Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.”
But he answered, “Why do you ask my name? ” And he blessed him there.
A man found him there, wandering in the field, and asked him, “What are you looking for? ”
So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today? ”
They answered, “The man kept asking about us and our family: ‘Is your father still alive? Do you have another brother? ’ And we answered him accordingly. How could we know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother here’? ”
He asked if they were well, and he said, “How is your elderly father that you told me about? Is he still alive? ”
Now Jacob had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to prepare for his arrival[fn] at Goshen. When they came to the land of Goshen,

When David came to the two hundred men who had been too exhausted to go with him and had been left at the Wadi Besor, they came out to meet him and to meet the troops with him. When David approached the men, he greeted them,
Then David inquired of the LORD: “Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? ”
The LORD replied to David, “Attack, for I will certainly hand the Philistines over to you.”
he sent his son Joram to King David to greet him and to congratulate him because David had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Toi and Hadadezer had fought many wars. Joram had items of silver, gold, and bronze with him.
She said, “In the past they used to say, ‘Seek counsel in Abel,’ and that’s how they settled disputes.
so David inquired of God, “Should I attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me? ”
The LORD replied, “Attack, and I will hand them over to you.”
So David again inquired of God, and God answered him, “Do not pursue them directly. Circle around them and attack them opposite the balsam trees.
he sent his son Hadoram to King David to greet him and to congratulate him because David had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Tou and Hadadezer had fought many wars. Hadoram brought all kinds of gold, silver, and bronze items.
So we questioned the elders and asked, “Who gave you the order to rebuild this temple and finish this structure? ”
We also asked them for their names, so that we could write down the names of their leaders for your information.
Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with men from Judah, and I questioned them about Jerusalem and the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile.
Have you never consulted those who travel the roads?
Don’t you accept their reports?[fn]

“Ask me what is to happen to[fn] my sons,
and instruct me about the work of my hands.
This is what the LORD says:
Stand by the roadways and look.
Ask about the ancient paths,
“Which is the way to what is good? ”
Then take it
and find rest for yourselves.
But they protested, “We won’t! ”
