When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped inside her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Then her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her his great mercy, and they rejoiced with her.
All who heard about him took it to heart, saying, “What then will this child become? ” For, indeed, the Lord’s hand was with him.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard, which were just as they had been told.
After three days, they found him in the temple sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.
Then he said to them, “No doubt you will quote this proverb[fn] to me: ‘Doctor, heal yourself. What we’ve heard that took place in Capernaum, do here in your hometown also.’ ”
As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word, he was standing by Lake Gennesaret.[fn]
But the news[fn] about him spread even more, and large crowds would come together to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses.
After coming down with them, he stood on a level place with a large crowd of his disciples and a great number of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon.
“But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you,
“I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them:
“But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great.”
When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, requesting him to come and save the life of his servant.
Jesus heard this and was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found so great a faith even in Israel.”
He replied to them, “Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy[fn] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,
(And when all the people, including the tax collectors, heard this, they acknowledged God’s way of righteousness, because they had been baptized with John’s baptism.
“Still other seed fell on good ground; when it grew up, it produced fruit: a hundred times what was sown.” As he said this, he called out, “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen.”
So he said, “The secrets of the kingdom of God have been given for you to know, but to the rest it is in parables, so that

“The seed along the path are those who have heard and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.
“And the seed on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy. Having no root, these believe for a while and fall away in a time of testing.
“As for the seed that fell among thorns, these are the ones who, when they have heard, go on their way and are choked with worries, riches, and pleasures of life, and produce no mature fruit.
“But the seed in the good ground — these are the ones who, having heard the word with an honest and good heart, hold on to it and by enduring, produce fruit.
“Therefore take care how you listen. For whoever has, more will be given to him; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
But he replied to them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear and do the word of God.”
When Jesus heard it, he answered him, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be saved.”[fn]
Herod the tetrarch heard about everything that was going on. He was perplexed, because some said that John had been raised from the dead,
“I beheaded John,” Herod said, “but who is this I hear such things about? ” And he wanted to see him.
Then a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, the Chosen One;[fn] listen to him! ”
“Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”
