“We are descendants[fn] of Abraham,” they answered him, “and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will become free’? ”
So then, if she is married to another man while her husband is living, she will be called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law. Then, if she is married to another man, she is not an adulteress.
Were you called while a slave? Don’t let it concern you. But if you can become free, by all means take the opportunity.[fn]
For he who is called by the Lord as a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ’s slave.
