Page 1 / 2 (Mat 7:22–1Co 10:21)
John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not accompanying us [as Your disciple].”
[fn][Now Jesus, having risen [from death] early on the first day of the week, appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.
Now Jesus called together the twelve [disciples] and gave them [the right to exercise] power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases.
John replied, “Master, we saw someone driving out demons in Your name; and we tried to stop him because he does not follow along with us.”
The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
And [at another time] Jesus was casting out a demon, and it was [controlling a man so as to make him] mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds were awed.
The Jews answered Him, “Are we not right when we say You are a [fn]Samaritan and [that You] have a demon [and are under its power]?”
