LXX Concordance for ἄνθρωπον

Then God said, “Let us make man[fn] in[fn] our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl[fn] on the earth.”

Then the LORD God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.

The LORD God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper corresponding to him.”

The man was intimate with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain. She said, “I have had a male child with the LORD's help.”[fn]

the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and he was deeply grieved.

“Whoever sheds human blood,

by humans his blood will be shed,

for God made humans in his image.

Now Rebekah had a brother named Laban, and Laban ran out to the man at the spring.

“So now, let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and set him over the land of Egypt.

and he said to them, “Can we find anyone like this, a man who has God's spirit[fn] in him? ”

“Take your brother also, and go back at once to the man.

So they approached Joseph's steward[fn] and spoke to him at the doorway of the house.

Years later,[fn] after Moses had grown up, he went out to his own people[fn] and observed their forced labor. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his people.

“So where is he? ” he asked his daughters. “Why then did you leave the man behind? Invite him to eat dinner.”

“The priest who performs the cleansing will place the person who is to be cleansed, together with these offerings, before the LORD at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

“I will turn[fn] against that man and cut him off from his people, because he gave his offspring to Molech, defiling my sanctuary and profaning my holy name.

“then I will turn against that man and his family, and cut off from their people both him and all who follow[fn] him in prostituting themselves with Molech.

“Whoever kills an animal is to make restitution for it, but whoever kills a person is to be put to death.

“If you kill this people with a single blow,[fn] the nations that have heard of your fame will declare,

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake image and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will recover.”

followed the Israelite man into the tent,[fn] and drove it through both the Israelite man and the woman ​— ​through her belly. Then the plague on the Israelites was stopped,

“May the LORD, the God who gives breath to all,[fn] appoint a man over the community

The LORD replied to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.

“Indeed, ask about the earlier days that preceded you, from the day God created mankind[fn] on the earth and from one end of the heavens to the other: Has anything like this great event ever happened, or has anything like it been heard of?

“You said, ‘Look, the LORD our God has shown us his glory and greatness, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that God speaks with a person, yet he still lives.

“you are to bring out to your city gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing and stone them to death.

“you are to appoint over you the king the LORD your God chooses. Appoint a king from your brothers. You are not to set a foreigner over you, or one who is not of your people.

Then the elders of that city will take the man and punish him.

“take the two of them out to the gate of that city and stone them to death ​— ​the young woman because she did not cry out in the city and the man because he has violated his neighbor's fiancée. You must purge the evil from you.

When Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua approached him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies? ”

The descendants of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the LORD promised Moses the man of God at Kadesh-barnea about you and me.

“but now your reign will not endure. The LORD has found a man after his own heart,[fn] and the LORD has appointed him as ruler over his people, because you have not done what the LORD commanded.”

“My lord should pay no attention to this worthless fool Nabal, for he lives up to his name:[fn] His name means ‘stupid,' and stupidity is all he knows.[fn] I, your servant, didn't see my lord's young men whom you sent.

But the word of God came to Shemaiah, the man of God:

Then the king declared to the man of God, “Come home with me, refresh yourself, and I'll give you a reward.”

and the prophet cried out to the man of God who had come from Judah, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Because you rebelled against the LORD's command and did not keep the command that the LORD your God commanded you ​— ​

The prophet found another man and said to him, “Strike me! ” So the man struck him, inflicting a wound.

So she came to the man of God at Mount Carmel.

When the man of God saw her at a distance, he said to his attendant Gehazi, “Look, there's the Shunammite woman.

A man from Baal-shalishah came to the man of God with his sack full of[fn] twenty loaves of barley bread from the first bread of the harvest. Elisha said, “Give it to the people to eat.”

But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, the man of God:

Haman told the king, “For the man the king wants to honor:

“Put the garment and the horse under the charge of one of the king's most noble officials. Have them clothe the man the king wants to honor, parade him on the horse through the city square, and call out before him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king wants to honor.' ”

It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing

and concealed from the birds of the sky.

I will be partial to no one,

and I will not give anyone an undeserved title.

in order to turn a person from his actions

and suppress the pride of a person.

so that godless men should not rule

or ensnare the people.

Should he be told that I want to speak?

Can a man speak when he is confused?

“You discipline a person with punishment for iniquity,

consuming like a moth what is precious to him;

yes, every human being is only a vapor.Selah

How long will you threaten a man?

Will all of you attack[fn]

as if he were a leaning wall

or a tottering fence?

You return mankind to the dust,

saying, “Return, descendants of Adam.”

The one who instructs nations,

the one who teaches mankind knowledge —

does he not discipline?

he allowed no one to oppress them;

he rebuked kings on their behalf:

He had sent a man ahead of them —

Joseph, who was sold as a slave.

For he did not think to show kindness,

but pursued the suffering, needy, and brokenhearted

in order to put them to death.

It is better to take refuge in the LORD

than to trust in humanity.

Don't accuse anyone without cause,

when he has done you no harm.

An endless dripping on a rainy day

and a nagging wife are alike;

Here is a tragedy I have observed under the sun, and it weighs heavily on humanity:[fn]

“which my soul continually searches for but does not find: I found one person in a thousand, but none of those was a woman.

heroes and warriors,

judges and prophets,

fortune-tellers and elders,

The people will oppress one another,

man against man, neighbor against neighbor;

the young will act arrogantly toward the old,

and the worthless toward the honorable.

It will pour into Judah,

flood over it, and sweep through,

reaching up to the neck;

and its flooded banks[fn]

will fill your entire land, Immanuel!

Like wandering gazelles

and like sheep without a shepherd,

each one will turn to his own people,

each one will flee to his own land.

It will be a sign and witness to the LORD of Armies in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and leader, and he will rescue them.

Egyptians are men, not God;

their horses are flesh, not spirit.

When the LORD raises his hand to strike,

the helper will stumble

and the one who is helped will fall;

both will perish together.

I said: I will never see the LORD,

the LORD in the land of the living;

I will not look on humanity any longer

with the inhabitants of what is passing away.[fn]

Who, like me, can announce the future?

Let him say so and make a case before me,

since I have established an ancient people.

Let these gods declare[fn] the coming things,

and what will take place.

“I made the earth,

and created humans on it.

It was my hands that stretched out the heavens,

and I commanded everything in them.

“Will the fast I choose be like this:

A day for a person to deny himself,

to bow his head like a reed,

and to spread out sackcloth and ashes?

Will you call this a fast

and a day acceptable to the LORD?

This is what the LORD says:

Cursed is the person who trusts in mankind.

He makes human flesh his strength,

and his heart turns from the LORD.

This is what the LORD says:

Record this man as childless,

a man who will not be successful in his lifetime.

None of his descendants will succeed

in sitting on the throne of David

or ruling again in Judah.

“As for the prophet, priest, or people who say, ‘The burden of the LORD,' I will punish that man and his household.

Ask and see

whether a male can give birth.

Why then do I see every man

with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor

and every face turned pale?

“This is what the LORD says: In this place, which you say is a ruin, without people or animals ​— ​that is, in Judah's cities and Jerusalem's streets that are a desolation without people, without inhabitants, and without animals ​— ​there will be heard again

“This is what the LORD of Armies says: In this desolate place ​— ​without people or animals ​— ​and in all its cities there will once more be a grazing land where shepherds may rest flocks.

“My lord the king, these men have been evil in all they have done to the prophet Jeremiah. They have dropped him into the cistern where he will die from hunger, because there is no more bread in the city.”

“So now, this is what the LORD, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such terrible harm to yourselves? You are cutting off man and woman, infant and nursing baby from Judah, leaving yourselves without a remnant.

or subverting a person in his lawsuit —

the Lord does not approve of these things.

“I will turn against that one and make him a sign and a proverb; I will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

“Son of man, suppose a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its supply of bread, to send famine through it, and to wipe out both people and animals from it.

“Or suppose I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,' so that I wipe out both people and animals from it.

“Or suppose I send a plague into that land and pour out my wrath on it with bloodshed to wipe out both people and animals from it.

“For this is what the Lord GOD says: How much worse will it be when I send my four devastating judgments against Jerusalem ​— ​sword, famine, dangerous animals, and plague ​— ​in order to wipe out both people and animals from it!

“He doesn't oppress anyone but returns his collateral to the debtor. He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.

“He doesn't oppress anyone, hold collateral, or commit robbery. He gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.

“therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off both people and animals from it. I will make it a wasteland; they will fall by the sword from Teman to Dedan.

“Son of man, speak to your people and tell them, ‘Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land select a man from among them, appointing him as their watchman.

“You as king have issued a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music must fall down and worship the gold statue.

May the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob the man who does this, whoever he may be,[fn] even if he presents an offering to the LORD of Armies.
