LXX Concordance for ἐχθρῶν

“Judah, your brothers will praise you.

Your hand will be on the necks of your enemies;

your father's sons will bow down to you.

“I will turn[fn] against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee even though no one is pursuing you.

“I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a pestilence among you, and you will be delivered into enemy hands.

“Then the land will make up for its Sabbath years during the time it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and make up for its Sabbaths.

“I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.

“You will perish among the nations; the land of your enemies will devour you.

“and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies ​— ​and when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their iniquity,

“Yet in spite of this, while they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or abhor them so as to destroy them and break my covenant with them, since I am the LORD their God.

“When you enter into battle in your land against an adversary who is attacking you, sound short blasts on the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God and be saved from your enemies.

“Don't go, because the LORD is not among you and you will be defeated by your enemies.

“What have you done to me? ” Balak asked Balaam. “I brought you to curse my enemies, but look, you have only blessed them! ”

God brought him out of Egypt;

he is like[fn] the horns of a wild ox for them.

He will feed on enemy nations

and gnaw their bones;

he will strike them with his arrows.

“But the LORD said to me, ‘Tell them: Don't go up and fight, for I am not with you to keep you from being defeated by your enemies.'

“When you cross the Jordan and live in the land the LORD your God is giving you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all the enemies around you and you live in security,

“But you may take the women, dependents, animals, and whatever else is in the city ​— ​all its spoil ​— ​as plunder. You may enjoy the spoil of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

“When the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance, blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven. Do not forget.

“The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

“if I had not feared provocation from the enemy,

or feared that these foes might misunderstand

and say, ‘Our own hand has prevailed;

it wasn't the LORD who did all this.' ”

“I will make my arrows drunk with blood

while my sword devours flesh —

the blood of the slain and the captives,

the heads of the enemy leaders.”[fn]

He said this about Judah:

LORD, hear Judah's cry and bring him to his people.

He fights for his cause[fn] with his own hands,

but may you be a help against his foes.

LORD, bless his possessions,[fn]

and accept the work of his hands.

Break the back[fn] of his adversaries and enemies,

so that they cannot rise again.

“This is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies. They will turn their backs and run from their enemies, because they have been set apart for destruction. I will no longer be with you unless you remove from among you what is set apart.

“But as for the rest of you, don't stay there. Pursue your enemies and attack them from behind. Don't let them enter their cities, for the LORD your God has handed them over to you.”

The LORD gave them rest on every side according to all he had sworn to their ancestors. None of their enemies were able to stand against them, for the LORD handed over all their enemies to them.

he said, “Return to your homes with great wealth: a huge number of cattle, and silver, gold, bronze, iron, and a large quantity of clothing. Share the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.”

A long time after the LORD had given Israel rest from all the enemies around them, Joshua was old, advanced in age.

The LORD's anger burned against Israel, and he handed them over to marauders who raided them. He sold them to the enemies around them, and they could no longer resist their enemies.

Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for the Israelites, the LORD was with him and saved the people from the power of their enemies while the judge was still alive. The LORD was moved to pity whenever they groaned because of those who were oppressing and afflicting them.

The Israelites did not remember the LORD their God who had rescued them from the hand of the enemies around them.

Then she said to him, “My father, you have given your word to the LORD. Do to me as you have said, for the LORD brought vengeance on your enemies, the Ammonites.”

When the troops returned to the camp, the elders of Israel asked, “Why did the LORD defeat us today before the Philistines? Let's bring the ark of the LORD's covenant from Shiloh. Then it[fn] will go with us and save us from our enemies.”

Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it out on Saul's head, kissed him, and said, “Hasn't the LORD anointed you ruler over his inheritance?[fn]

“Then they cried out to the LORD and said, ‘We have sinned, for we abandoned the LORD and worshiped the Baals and the Ashtoreths. Now rescue us from the power of our enemies, and we will serve you.'

“How much better if the troops had eaten freely today from the plunder they took from their enemies! Then the slaughter of the Philistines would have been much greater.”

“Someone is pursuing you and intends to take your life. My lord's life is tucked safely in the place[fn] where the LORD your God protects the living, but he is flinging away your enemies' lives like stones from a sling.

When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying, “Here is a gift for you from the plunder of the LORD's enemies.”

“Now take action, because the LORD has spoken concerning David: ‘Through my servant David I will save my people Israel from the power of the Philistines and the power of all Israel's enemies.' ”

They brought Ish-bosheth's head to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Here's the head of Ish-bosheth son of Saul, your enemy who intended to take your life. Today the LORD has granted vengeance to my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”

When the king had settled into his palace and the LORD had given him rest on every side from all his enemies,

“ever since the day I ordered judges to be over my people Israel. I will give you rest from all your enemies.

“ ‘The LORD declares to you: The LORD himself will make a house for you.

So God said to him, “Because you have requested this and did not ask for long life[fn] or riches for yourself, or the death[fn] of your enemies, but you asked discernment for yourself to administer justice,

When your people Israel are defeated before an enemy,

because they have sinned against you,

and they return to you and praise your name,

and they pray and plead with you

for mercy in this temple,

When they sin against you —

for there is no one who does not sin —

and you are angry with them

and hand them over to the enemy,

and their captors deport them to the enemy's country —

whether distant or nearby —

and when they return to you with all their heart and all their soul

in the land of their enemies who took them captive,

and when they pray to you in the direction of their land

that you gave their ancestors,

the city you have chosen,

and the temple I have built for your name,

“but fear the LORD your God, and he will rescue you from all your enemies.”

“I will abandon the remnant of my inheritance and hand them over to their enemies. They will become plunder and spoil to all their enemies,

“three years of famine, or three months of devastation by your foes with the sword of your enemy overtaking you, or three days of the sword of the LORD ​— ​a plague on the land, the angel of the LORD bringing destruction to the whole territory of Israel.' Now decide what answer I should take back to the one who sent me.”

“But a son will be born to you; he will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his surrounding enemies, for his name will be Solomon,[fn] and I will give peace and quiet to Israel during his reign.

In Judah, it was said:[fn]

The strength of the laborer fails,

since there is so much rubble.

We will never be able

to rebuild the wall.

Then I said, “What you are doing isn't right. Shouldn't you walk in the fear of our God and not invite the reproach of our foreign enemies?

When Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall and that no gap was left in it ​— ​though at that time I had not installed the doors in the city gates ​— ​

But as soon as they had relief,

they again did what was evil in your sight.

So you abandoned them to the power of their enemies,

who dominated them.

When they cried out to you again,

you heard from heaven and rescued them

many times in your compassion.

or “Deliver me from the enemy's hand”

or “Redeem me from the hand of the ruthless”?

the Almighty will be your gold

and your finest silver.

Have I rejoiced over my enemy's distress,

or become excited when trouble came his way?

which I hold in reserve for times of trouble,

for the day of warfare and battle?

LORD, lead me in your righteousness

because of my adversaries;

make your way straight before me.

if I have done harm to one at peace with me

or have plundered[fn] my adversary without cause,

Rise up, LORD, in your anger;

lift yourself up against the fury of my adversaries;

awake for me;[fn]

you have ordained a judgment.

From the mouths of infants and nursing babies,

you have established a stronghold[fn]

on account of your adversaries

in order to silence the enemy and the avenger.

Be gracious to me, LORD;

consider my affliction at the hands of those who hate me.

Lift me up from the gates of death,

His ways are always secure;[fn]

your lofty judgments have no effect on him;[fn]

he scoffs at all his adversaries.

Rise up, LORD!

Confront him; bring him down.

With your sword, save me from the wicked.

I love you, LORD, my strength.

I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,

and I was saved from my enemies.

He rescued me from my powerful enemy

and from those who hated me,

for they were too strong for me.

He brought me out to a spacious place;

he rescued me because he delighted in me.

He frees me from my enemies.

You exalt me above my adversaries;

you rescue me from violent men.

Because of my adversaries,

show me your way, LORD,

and lead me on a level path.

The course of my life is in your power;

rescue me from the power of my enemies

and from my persecutors.

Your sharpened arrows pierce the hearts of the king's enemies;

the peoples fall under you.

Rescue me from my enemies, my God;

protect me from those who rise up against me.

Surely God crushes the heads of his enemies,

the hairy brow of one who goes on in his guilty acts.

“so that your foot may wade[fn] in blood

and your dogs' tongues may have their share

from the enemies.”

Come near to me and redeem me;

ransom me because of my enemies.

You have lifted high the right hand of his foes;

you have made all his enemies rejoice.

The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion.

Rule[fn] over your surrounding[fn] enemies.

and rescued us from our foes.

His faithful love endures forever.

If I walk into the thick of danger,

you will preserve my life

from the anger of my enemies.

You will extend your hand;

your right hand will save me.

Rescue me from my enemies, LORD;

I come to you for protection.[fn]

Therefore the Lord GOD of Armies,

the Mighty One of Israel, declares:

“Ah, I will get even with my foes;

I will take revenge against my enemies.

Don't go out to the fields;

don't walk on the road.

For the enemy has a sword;

terror is on every side.

I have abandoned my house;

I have deserted my inheritance.

I have handed the love of my life

over to her enemies.

“The mother of seven grew faint;

she breathed her last breath.

Her sun set while it was still day;

she was ashamed and humiliated.

The rest of them I will give over to the sword

in the presence of their enemies.”

This is the LORD's declaration.

I will scatter them before the enemy like the east wind.

I will show them[fn] my back and not my face

on the day of their calamity.

“I will spoil the plans of Judah and Jerusalem in this place. I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies, by the hand of those who intend to take their life. I will provide their corpses as food for the birds of the sky and for the wild animals of the land.

“for this is what the LORD says, ‘I am about to make you a terror to both yourself and those you love. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will deport them to Babylon and put them to the sword.

“Afterward ​— ​this is the LORD's declaration ​— ​King Zedekiah of Judah, his officers, and the people ​— ​those in this city who survive the plague, the sword, and the famine ​— ​I will hand over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, to their enemies, yes, to those who intend to take their lives. He will put them to the sword; he won't spare them or show pity or compassion.'

This is what the LORD says:

Keep your voice from weeping

and your eyes from tears,

for the reward for your work will come —

this is the LORD's declaration —

and your children will return from the enemy's land.

“I will hand King Zedekiah of Judah and his officials over to their enemies, to those who intend to take their lives, to the king of Babylon's army that is withdrawing.

I will devastate Elam before their enemies,

before those who intend to take their lives.

I will bring disaster on them,

my burning anger.

This is the LORD's declaration.

I will send the sword after them

until I finish them off.

“ ‘Because you maintained a perpetual hatred and gave the Israelites over to the power of the sword in the time of their disaster, the time of final punishment,

“And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile on account of their iniquity, because they dealt unfaithfully with me. Therefore, I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.

And if they are driven

by their enemies into captivity,

from there I will command

the sword to kill them.

I will keep my eye on them

for harm and not for good.

Writhe and cry out,[fn] Daughter Zion,

like a woman in labor,

for now you will leave the city

and camp in the open fields.

You will go to Babylon;

there you will be rescued;

there the LORD will redeem you

from the grasp of your enemies!

You[fn] also will become drunk;

you will hide.[fn]

You also will seek refuge from the enemy.

The LORD has removed your punishment;

he has turned back your enemy.

The King of Israel, the LORD, is among you;

you need no longer fear harm.

Ahimaaz son of Zadok said, “Please let me run and tell the king the good news that the LORD has vindicated him by freeing him from his enemies.”

People throughout all the tribes of Israel were arguing among themselves, saying, “The king rescued us from the grasp of our enemies, and he saved us from the grasp of the Philistines, but now he has fled from the land because of Absalom.

David spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from the grasp of all his enemies and from the grasp of Saul.

I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,

and I was saved from my enemies.

He rescued me from my powerful enemy

and from those who hated me,

for they were too strong for me.

He frees me from my enemies.

You exalt me above my adversaries;

you rescue me from violent men.

So Gad went to David, told him the choices, and asked him, “Do you want three[fn] years of famine to come on your land, to flee from your foes three months while they pursue you, or to have a plague in your land three days? Now, consider carefully[fn] what answer I should take back to the one who sent me.”

When they sin against you —

for there is no one who does not sin —

and you are angry with them

and hand them over to the enemy,

and their captors deport them

to a distant or nearby country,

Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem turned back with Jehoshaphat their leader, returning joyfully to Jerusalem, for the LORD enabled them to rejoice over their enemies.

“But if you go with them, do it! Be strong for battle! But God will make you stumble before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to make one stumble.”

because during those days the Jews gained relief from their enemies. That was the month when their sorrow was turned into rejoicing and their mourning into a holiday. They were to be days of feasting, rejoicing, and of sending gifts to one another and to the poor.
