Num. 2:1–34 This chapter describes how the camp was to be arranged and the order in which the tribes were to march. At the center of the camp was the tabernacle. Surrounding it were the Levites. Beyond them the other tribes were encamped.
Num. 2:2 It is unknown what Israel’s tribal banners and standards looked like. Facing could also be translated “at a distance from.” A gap had to be kept between the non-Levites and the tabernacle.
Num. 2:14 Reuel is elsewhere called Deuel (1:14). The letters D and R are easily confused in Hebrew script.
