Why the Bible Is So Special – Introduction
The grass withers, the flower fades but the word of our God will stand forever. (Isaiah 40:8 ESV)
Jesus said: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. (Matthew 24:35 KJV)
The Christian faith is based upon a Book—the Bible. In this book we will look at some introductory questions concerning this book of books. These include: What kind of book is the Bible? What does it claim for itself? Why is it so important to study this one book? “Why does humanity need a written revelation from God?” If the Bible claims to be the Word of God, then why should we believe it?
These questions are primary. They must be answered before any serious study of the Bible can begin.
The truths we will discover in this section will lay the foundation for the rest of our study for this subject, as well as all of the other subjects we will consider. Therefore, this particular subject is of the utmost importance to study.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
