وَكَانَ فِي الْغَدِ أَنَّ مُوسَى قَالَ لِلشَّعْبِ: «أَنْتُمْ قَدْ أَخْطَأْتُمْ خَطِيَّةً عَظِيمَةً، فَأَصْعَدُ الآنَ إِلَى الرَّبِّ لَعَلِّي أُكَفِّرُ خَطِيَّتَكُمْ».

وَفِي الْغَدِ قَالَ مُوسَى لِلشَّعْبِ: «لَقَدِ ارْتَكَبْتُمْ خَطِيئَةً عَظِيمَةً، وَهَا أَنَا أَعُودُ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ لأَمْثُلَ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ، لَعَلِّي أَحْظَى لَكُمْ بِغُفْرَانِهِ».
