وَقَالَ يُونَاثَانُ لِدَاوُدَ: «يَا رَبُّ إِلهَ إِسْرَائِيلَ، مَتَى اخْتَبَرْتُ أَبِي مِثْلَ الآنَ غَدًا أَوْ بَعْدَ غَدٍ، فَإِنْ كَانَ خَيْرٌ لِدَاوُدَ وَلَمْ أُرْسِلْ حِينَئِذٍ فَأُخْبِرَهُ،

وَهُنَاكَ قَالَ يُونَاثَانُ لِدَاوُدَ: «لِيَكُنِ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ إِسْرَائِيلَ شَاهِداً أَنَّهُ إِنْ كَشَفْتُ عَنْ نِيَّةِ أَبِي مِنْ نَحْوِكَ غداً أَوْ بَعْدَ غَدٍ، فِي مِثْلِ هَذَا الْوَقْتِ، فَوَجَدْتُ أَنَّهُ يَكُنُّ لَكَ الْخَيْرَ وَلَمْ أُرْسِلْ لأُطْلِعَكَ عَلَيْهِ،
