فَقَالَ جِدْعُونُ لِلهِ: «لاَ يَحْمَ غَضَبُكَ عَلَيَّ فَأَتَكَلَّمَ هذِهِ الْمَرَّةَ فَقَطْ. أَمْتَحِنُ هذِهِ الْمَرَّةَ فَقَطْ بِالْجَزَّةِ. فَلْيَكُنْ جَفَافٌ فِي الْجَزَّةِ وَحْدَهَا وَعَلَى كُلِّ الأَرْضِ لِيَكُنْ طَلٌّ».

فَقَالَ جِدْعُونُ للهِ: «لا يَحْتَدِمْ غَضَبُكَ عَلَيَّ وَدَعْنِي أَتَقَدَّمُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فَقَطْ بِطَلَبٍ وَاحِدٍ. اسْمَحْ لِي أَنْ أُجْرِيَ اخْتِبَاراً آخَرَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْجَزَّةِ. لِتَبْقَ هَذِهِ الْجَزَّةُ وَحْدَهَا جَافَّةً، أَمَّا بَقِيَّةُ الأَرْضِ فَلْيُبَلِّلْهَا النَّدَى».

And Gedeon said to God, Let not, I pray thee, thine anger be kindled with me, and I will speak yet once; I will even yet make one trial more with the fleece: let now the drought be upon the fleece only, and let there be dew on all the ground.
