فَقَالَ: «لَمَّا كَانَ الْوَلَدُ حَيًّا صُمْتُ وَبَكَيْتُ لأَنِّي قُلْتُ: مَنْ يَعْلَمُ؟ رُبَّمَا يَرْحَمُنِي الرَّبُّ وَيَحْيَا الْوَلَدُ.

فَأَجَابَ: «حِينَ كَانَ الطِّفْلُ حَيًّا صُمْتُ وَبَكَيْتُ لأَنِّي حَدَّثْتُ نَفْسِي: مَنْ يَعْلَمُ؟ رُبَّمَا يَرْحَمُنِي الرَّبُّ وَيَحْيَا الْوَلَدُ.
