وَقَالَ دَاوُدُ لأَبِيشَايَ وَلِجَمِيعِ عَبِيدِهِ: «هُوَذَا ابْنِي الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنْ أَحْشَائِي يَطْلُبُ نَفْسِي، فَكَمْ بِالْحَرِيِّ الآنَ بَنْيَامِينِيٌّ؟ دَعُوهُ يَسُبَّ لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ قَالَ لَهُ.

وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ لأَبِيشَايَ وَسَائِرِ رِجَالِهِ: «هُوَذَا ابْنِي الَّذِي خَرَجَ مِنْ صُلْبِي يَسْعَى لِقَتْلِي، فَكَمْ بالْحَرِيِّ هَذَا الْبَنْيَامِينِيُّ. دَعُوهُ يَشْتِمُ لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ أَمَرَهُ بِشَتْمِي.
