καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Ελκανα ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς Αννα καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ἰδοὺ ἐγώ κύριε καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῇ τί ἐστίν σοι ὅτι κλαίεις καὶ ἵνα τί οὐκ ἐσθίεις καὶ ἵνα τί τύπτει σε καρδία σου οὐκ ἀγαθὸς ἐγώ σοι ὑπὲρ δέκα τέκνα

فَقَالَ لَهَا أَلْقَانَةُ رَجُلُهَا: «يَا حَنَّةُ، لِمَاذَا تَبْكِينَ؟ وَلِمَاذَا لاَ تَأْكُلِينَ؟ وَلِمَاذَا يَكْتَئِبُ قَلْبُكِ؟ أَمَا أَنَا خَيْرٌ لَكِ مِنْ عَشَرَةِ بَنِينَ؟».

فَسَأَلَهَا أَلْقَانَةُ زَوْجُهَا: «يَا حَنَّةُ، لِمَاذَا تَبْكِينَ؟ وَلِمَاذَا تَمْتَنِعِينَ عَنِ الأَكْلِ؟ وَلِمَاذَا يَكْتَئِبُ قَلْبُكِ؟ أَلَسْتُ أَنَا خَيْراً لَكِ مِنْ عَشَرَةِ بَنِينَ؟».
