وَكَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ الأُخْرَى تَقُولُ: «كَلاَّ، بَلِ ابْنِيَ الْحَيُّ وَابْنُكِ الْمَيْتُ». وَهذِهِ تَقُولُ: «لاَ، بَلِ ابْنُكِ الْمَيْتُ وَابْنِيَ الْحَيُّ». وَتَكَلَّمَتَا أَمَامَ الْمَلِكِ.

وَشَرَعَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ الأُخْرَى تُقَاطِعُهَا قَائِلَةً: «كَلًّا. إِنَّ ابْنِي هُوَ الْحَيُّ، وَابْنَكِ هُوَ الْمَيْتُ». فَتَرُدُّ عَلَيْهَا الأُخْرَى: «بَلِ ابْنُكِ هُوَ الْمَيْتُ وَابْنِي هُوَ الْحَيُّ». وَهَكَذَا اشْتَدَّ الْجَدَلُ أَمَامَ الْمَلِكِ،
