فَقَالَ دَاوُدُ لِيُوآبَ وَلِجَمِيعِ الشَّعْبِ الَّذِي مَعَهُ: «مَزِّقُوا ثِيَابَكُمْ وَتَنَطَّقُوا بِالْمُسُوحِ وَالْطِمُوا أَمَامَ أَبْنَيْرَ». وَكَانَ دَاوُدُ الْمَلِكُ يَمْشِي وَرَاءَ النَّعْشِ.

وَأَمَرَ دَاوُدُ يُوآبَ وَسَائِرَ الشَّعْبِ الَّذِي مَعَهُ قَاِئلاً: «مَزِّقُوا ثِيَابَكُمْ وَارْتَدُوا الْمُسُوحَ، وَالْطِمُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ نَوْحاً عَلَى أَبْنَيْرَ». وَكَانَ دَاوُدُ الْمَلِكُ يَمْشِي خَلْفَ النَّعْشِ.
