Jediael:
the science, or knowledge, of God
Jediael:
je-di'-a-el (yedhia'-el, "God makes known" (?)):
(1) A "son" of Benjamin or probably of Zebulun (1Ch 7:6,10,11). See Curtis, Chronicles, 145-49, who suggests emending the name to yachle'el, Jahleel, in agreement with Ge 46:24.
(2) One of David's mighty men (1Ch 11:45), probably = the Manassite who deserted to David at Ziklag (1Ch 12:20 (Hebrew 21)).
(3) A Korahite doorkeeper in David's reign (1Ch 26:2).
Jediael:
(known of God).
(1.) A chief patriarch of the tribe of Benjamin (1 Chronicles 7:6; 7:11). It is usually assumed that Jediael is the same as Ashbel (Genesis 46:21; Numbers 26:38; 1 Chronicles 8:1) but this is not certain. SEE [ASHBEL].
(2.) Second son of Meshelemiah, a Levite (1 Chronicles 26:1-2).
(3.) Son of Shimri; one of the heroes of David's guard (1 Chronicles 11:45). (B.C. 1046)
(4.) One of the chiefs of the thousands of Manasseh who joined David on his march to Ziklag (1 Chronicles 12:20 compare 1 Samuel 30:9-10). (B.C. 1053)
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
