Psalm 56 :: New American Standard Bible 1995 (NASB95)

Supplication for Deliverance and Grateful Trust in God.

Psa 56:1For the choir director; according to [fn]Jonath elem rehokim. A [fn]Mikhtam of David, [fn]when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
Be gracious to me, O God, for man has [fn]trampled upon me;
[fn]Fighting all day long he oppresses me.
Psa 56:2My foes have [fn]trampled upon me all day long,
For [fn]they are many who fight proudly against me.
Psa 56:3[fn]When I am afraid,
[fn]I will put my trust in You.
Psa 56:4In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere [fn]man do to me?
Psa 56:5All day long they [fn]distort my words;
All their [fn]thoughts are against me for evil.
Psa 56:6They [fn]attack, they lurk,
They watch my [fn]steps,
As they have waited to take my [fn]life.
Psa 56:7Because of wickedness, [fn]cast them forth,
In anger put down the peoples, O God!
Psa 56:8You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
Psa 56:9Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, [fn]that God is for me.
Psa 56:10In God, whose word I praise,
In the LORD, whose word I praise,
Psa 56:11In God I have put my [fn]trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
Psa 56:12Your vows are binding upon me, O God;
I will render thank offerings to You.
Psa 56:13For You have delivered my soul from death,
[fn]Indeed my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God
In the light of the [fn]living.
