Psalm 106 :: New American Standard Bible 1995 (NASB95)

Israel's Rebelliousness and the LORD'S Deliverances.

Psa 106:1[fn]Praise [fn]the LORD!
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Psa 106:2Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the LORD,
Or can show forth all His praise?
Psa 106:3How blessed are those who keep [fn]justice,
[fn]Who practice righteousness at all times!
Psa 106:4Remember me, O LORD, in Your favor [fn]toward Your people;
Visit me with Your salvation,
Psa 106:5That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may glory with Your [fn]inheritance.
Psa 106:6We have sinned [fn]like our fathers,
We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.
Psa 106:7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your [fn]wonders;
They did not remember [fn]Your abundant kindnesses,
But rebelled by the sea, at the [fn]Red Sea.
Psa 106:8Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name,
That He might make His power known.
Psa 106:9Thus He rebuked the [fn]Red Sea and it dried up,
And He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
Psa 106:10So He saved them from the [fn]hand of the one who hated them,
And redeemed them from the [fn]hand of the enemy.
Psa 106:11The waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
Psa 106:12Then they believed His words;
They sang His praise.
Psa 106:13They quickly forgot His works;
They did not wait for His counsel,
Psa 106:14But craved intensely in the wilderness,
And [fn]tempted God in the desert.
Psa 106:15So He gave them their request,
But sent a [fn]wasting disease among them.
Psa 106:16When they became envious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD,
Psa 106:17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And engulfed the [fn]company of Abiram.
Psa 106:18And a fire blazed up in their [fn]company;
The flame consumed the wicked.
Psa 106:19They made a calf in Horeb
And worshiped a molten image.
Psa 106:20Thus they exchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
Psa 106:21They forgot God their Savior,
Who had done great things in Egypt,
Psa 106:22[fn]Wonders in the land of Ham
And awesome things by the [fn]Red Sea.
Psa 106:23Therefore He said that He would destroy them,
Had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him,
To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
Psa 106:24Then they despised the pleasant land;
They did not believe in His word,
Psa 106:25But grumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
Psa 106:26Therefore He [fn]swore to them
That He would cast them down in the wilderness,
Psa 106:27And that He would cast their seed among the nations
And scatter them in the lands.
Psa 106:28They joined themselves also to [fn]Baal-peor,
And ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
Psa 106:29Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And the plague broke out among them.
Psa 106:30Then Phinehas stood up and interposed,
And so the plague was stayed.
Psa 106:31And it was reckoned to him for righteousness,
To all generations forever.
Psa 106:32They also provoked Him to wrath at the waters of [fn]Meribah,
So that it went hard with Moses on their account;
Psa 106:33Because they were rebellious against [fn]His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.
Psa 106:34They did not destroy the peoples,
As the LORD commanded them,
Psa 106:35But they mingled with the nations
And learned their [fn]practices,
Psa 106:36And served their idols,
Which became a snare to them.
Psa 106:37They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons,
Psa 106:38And shed innocent blood,
The blood of their sons and their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was polluted with the blood.
Psa 106:39Thus they became unclean in their [fn]practices,
And played the harlot in their deeds.
Psa 106:40Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people
And He abhorred His [fn]inheritance.
Psa 106:41Then He gave them into the hand of the [fn]nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
Psa 106:42Their enemies also oppressed them,
And they were subdued under their [fn]power.
Psa 106:43Many times He would deliver them;
They, however, were rebellious in their counsel,
And so sank down in their iniquity.
Psa 106:44Nevertheless He looked upon their distress
When He heard their cry;
Psa 106:45And He remembered His covenant for their sake,
And [fn]relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
Psa 106:46He also made them objects of compassion
In the presence of all their captors.
Psa 106:47Save us, O LORD our God,
And gather us from among the nations,
To give thanks to Your holy name
And [fn]glory in Your praise.
Psa 106:48Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
From everlasting even to everlasting.
And let all the people say, “Amen.”
[fn]Praise [fn]the LORD!
