Proverbs 6 :: New American Standard Bible 1995 (NASB95)

Parental Counsel

Pro 6:1

Pro 6:1My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor,
Have [fn]given a pledge for a stranger,

Pro 6:2

Pro 6:2If you have been snared with the words of your mouth,
Have been caught with the words of your mouth,

Pro 6:3

Pro 6:3Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself;
Since you have come into the [fn]hand of your neighbor,
Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor.

Pro 6:4

Pro 6:4Give no sleep to your eyes,
Nor slumber to your eyelids;

Pro 6:5

Pro 6:5Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter’s hand
And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Pro 6:6

Pro 6:6Go to the ant, O sluggard,
Observe her ways and be wise,

Pro 6:7

Pro 6:7Which, having no chief,
Officer or ruler,

Pro 6:8

Pro 6:8Prepares her food in the summer
And gathers her provision in the harvest.

Pro 6:9

Pro 6:9How long will you lie down, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?

Pro 6:10

Pro 6:10“A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to [fn]rest”—

Pro 6:11

Pro 6:11Your poverty will come in like a [fn]vagabond
And your need like [fn]an armed man.

Pro 6:12

Pro 6:12A worthless person, a wicked man,
Is the one who walks with a perverse mouth,

Pro 6:13

Pro 6:13Who winks with his eyes, who [fn]signals with his feet,
Who [fn]points with his fingers;

Pro 6:14

Pro 6:14Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil,
Who [fn]spreads strife.

Pro 6:15

Pro 6:15Therefore his calamity will come suddenly;
Instantly he will be broken and there will be no healing.

Pro 6:16

Pro 6:16There are six things which the LORD hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination [fn]to Him:

Pro 6:17

Pro 6:17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,

Pro 6:18

Pro 6:18A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,

Pro 6:19

Pro 6:19A false witness who utters lies,
And one who [fn]spreads strife among brothers.

Pro 6:20

Pro 6:20My son, observe the commandment of your father
And do not forsake the [fn]teaching of your mother;

Pro 6:21

Pro 6:21Bind them continually on your heart;
Tie them around your neck.

Pro 6:22

Pro 6:22When you walk about, [fn]they will guide you;
When you sleep, [fn]they will watch over you;
And when you awake, [fn]they will talk to you.

Pro 6:23

Pro 6:23For the commandment is a lamp and the [fn]teaching is light;
And reproofs for discipline are the way of life

Pro 6:24

Pro 6:24To keep you from the evil woman,
From the smooth tongue of the [fn]adulteress.

Pro 6:25

Pro 6:25Do not desire her beauty in your heart,
Nor let her capture you with her eyelids.

Pro 6:26

Pro 6:26For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread,
And [fn]an adulteress hunts for the precious life.

Pro 6:27

Pro 6:27Can a man [fn]take fire in his bosom
And his clothes not be burned?

Pro 6:28

Pro 6:28Or can a man walk on hot coals
And his feet not be scorched?

Pro 6:29

Pro 6:29So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife;
Whoever touches her will not [fn]go unpunished.

Pro 6:30

Pro 6:30[fn]Men do not despise a thief if he steals
To satisfy [fn]himself when he is hungry;

Pro 6:31

Pro 6:31But when he is found, he must repay sevenfold;
He must give all the [fn]substance of his house.

Pro 6:32

Pro 6:32The one who commits adultery with a woman is lacking [fn]sense;
He who would destroy [fn]himself does it.

Pro 6:33

Pro 6:33Wounds and disgrace he will find,
And his reproach will not be blotted out.

Pro 6:34

Pro 6:34For jealousy [fn]enrages a man,
And he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

Pro 6:35

Pro 6:35He will not [fn]accept any ransom,
Nor will he be [fn]satisfied though you give many [fn]gifts.
