Aaron’s Staff Buds

[fn]Then the LORD^H3068 spoke^H1696 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559,

Num 17:2“Speak to the sons of Israel, and obtain from them a staff for each father’s household: twelve staffs, from all their leaders for their fathers’ households. You shall write each man’s name on his staff,

Num 17:3

Num 17:3and write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi; for there is to be one staff for the head of each of their fathers’ households.

Num 17:4

Num 17:4“You shall then leave them in the tent of meeting in front of the testimony, where I meet with you.

Num 17:5

Num 17:5“And it will come about that the staff of the man whom I choose will sprout. So I will relieve Myself of the grumblings of the sons of Israel, who are grumbling against you.”

Num 17:6

Num 17:6So Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and all their leaders gave him a staff, one for each leader, for their fathers’ households, twelve staffs in all, with the staff of Aaron among their staffs.

Num 17:7

Num 17:7Then Moses left the staffs before the LORD in the tent of the testimony.

Num 17:8

Now on the next^H4283 day^H4283 Moses^H4872 went^H935 into the tent^H168 of the testimony^H5715; and behold^H2009, Aaron’s^H175 staff^H4294 for the house^H1004 of Levi^H3878 had sprouted^H6524 and produced^H3318 buds^H6525 and bloomed^H6692 with blossoms^H6731, and it yielded^H1580 ripe^H1580 almonds^H8247.

Num 17:9

Num 17:9Moses then brought out all the staffs from the presence of the LORD to all the sons of Israel; and they looked, and each man took his staff.

Num 17:10

Num 17:10But the LORD said to Moses, “Put the staff of Aaron back in front of the testimony [fn]to be kept as a sign against the [fn]rebels, so that you may put an end to their grumblings against Me and they do not die.”

Num 17:11

Num 17:11Moses did so; just as the LORD had commanded him, so he did.

Num 17:12

Then the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 spoke^H559 to Moses^H4872, saying^H559, “Behold^H2005, we are passing^H1478 away^H1478, we are perishing^H6, we are all^H3605 perishing^H6!

Num 17:13

Num 17:13“Everyone who comes near, who comes near to the tabernacle of the LORD, must die. Are we to perish completely?”
