When^G3753 Jesus^G2424 had finished^G5055 [fn]giving^G1299 instructions^G1299 to His twelve^G1427 disciples^G3101, He went^G3327 on^G3327 from^G1564 there^G1564 to teach^G1321 and [fn]preach^G2784 in their cities^G4172.

Mat 11:2

Now^G1161 while in prison^G1201, John^G2491 heard^G191 about the works^G2041 of Christ^G5547, and he sent^G3992 word by his disciples^G3101,

Mat 11:3

Mat 11:3and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or are we to [fn]look for someone else?”

Mat 11:4

Mat 11:4Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see:

Mat 11:5

Mat 11:5those who are BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and those who limp walk, those with leprosy are cleansed and those who are deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the POOR HAVE THE [fn]GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM.

Mat 11:6

Mat 11:6“And blessed is [fn]any person who does not [fn]take offense at Me.”

Jesus’ Tribute to John

Mat 11:7

As these^G3778 disciples of John were going^G4198 away, Jesus^G2424 began^G757 speaking^G3004 to the crowds^G3793 about^G4012 John^G2491: “What^G5101 did you go^G1831 out^G1831 into the wilderness^G2048 to see^G2300? A reed^G2563 shaken^G4531 by the wind^G417?

Mat 11:8

Mat 11:8“[fn]But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ [fn]palaces!

Mat 11:9

Mat 11:9“[fn]But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet.

Mat 11:10

Mat 11:10“This is the one about whom it [fn]is written:

‘BEHOLD^G2400, I AM SENDING^G649 MY MESSENGER^G32 [fn]AHEAD^G4253 OF YOU,

WHO^G3739 WILL PREPARE^G2680 YOUR WAY^G3598 BEFORE^G1715 YOU.’

Mat 11:11

“Truly^G281 I say^G3004 to you, among^G1722 those born^G1084 of women^G1135 there has not arisen^G1453 anyone greater^G3173 than John^G2491 the Baptist^G910! Yet^G1161 the one who is least^G3398 in the kingdom^G932 of heaven^G3772 is greater^G3173 than he.

Mat 11:12

Mat 11:12“And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has been treated violently, and violent men take it by force.

Mat 11:13

Mat 11:13“For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.

Mat 11:14

Mat 11:14“And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who [fn]was to come.

Mat 11:15“The one who has ears to hear, [fn]let him hear.

Mat 11:16

“But to what^G5101 shall I compare^G3666 this^G3778 generation^G1074? It is like^G3664 children^G3813 sitting^G2521 in the marketplaces^G58, who^G3739 call^G4377 out^G4377 to the other^G2087 children,

Mat 11:17

Mat 11:17and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a song of mourning, and you did not [fn]mourn.’

Mat 11:18

Mat 11:18“For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’

Mat 11:19

Mat 11:19“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a [fn]heavy drinker, a friend of tax collectors and [fn]sinners!’ And yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

The Unrepenting Cities

(Gen 19:12–14; Luk 10:13–15 )

Mat 11:20

Then^G5119 He began^G757 to reprimand^G3679 the cities^G4172 in which^G3739 most^G4183 of His [fn]miracles^G1411 were done^G1096, because^G3754 they did not repent^G3340.

Mat 11:21

Mat 11:21“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the [fn]miracles that occurred in you had occurred in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in [fn]sackcloth and ashes.

Mat 11:22

Mat 11:22“Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

Mat 11:23

Mat 11:23“And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades! For if the [fn]miracles that occurred in you had occurred in Sodom, it would have remained to this day.

Mat 11:24

Mat 11:24“Nevertheless I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”

Come to Me

(Luk 10:21, 22 )

Mat 11:25

[fn]At that time^G2540 Jesus^G2424 said^G3004, “I praise^G1843 You, Father^G3962, Lord^G2962 of heaven^G3772 and earth^G1093, that You have hidden^G2928 these^G3778 things^G3778 from the wise^G4680 and intelligent^G4908, and have revealed^G601 them to infants^G3516.

Mat 11:26

Mat 11:26“Yes, Father, for this way was well pleasing in Your sight.

Mat 11:27

Mat 11:27“All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal Him.

Mat 11:28

“Come^G1205 to Me, all^G3956 [fn]who are weary^G2872 and burdened^G5412, and I will give^G373 you rest^G373.

Mat 11:29

Mat 11:29“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND [fn]REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

Mat 11:30

Mat 11:30“For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”
