Luke 24 :: New American Standard Bible 2020 (NASB20)

The Resurrection

(Mat 28:1–10; Mar 16:1–8; Jhn 20:1–10 )

But on the first^G1520 day of the week^G4521, at early^G901 dawn^G3722, they came^G2064 to the tomb^G3418 bringing^G5342 the spices^G759 which^G3739 they had prepared^G2090.

Luk 24:2

Luk 24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

Luk 24:3

Luk 24:3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

Luk 24:4

Luk 24:4While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in gleaming clothing;

Luk 24:5

Luk 24:5and as [fn]the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you seeking the living One among the dead?

Luk 24:6

Luk 24:6“He is not here, but He has [fn]risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,

Luk 24:7

Luk 24:7saying that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise from the dead.”

Luk 24:8

Luk 24:8And they remembered His words,

Luk 24:9

Luk 24:9and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.

Luk 24:10

Luk 24:10Now these women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles.

Luk 24:11

Luk 24:11But these words appeared [fn]to them as nonsense, and they would not believe [fn]the women.

Luk 24:12

Luk 24:12Nevertheless, Peter got up and ran to the tomb; and when he stooped and looked in, he *saw the linen wrappings [fn]only; and he went away to his [fn]home, marveling at what had happened.

The Road to Emmaus

(Mar 16:12, 13 )

Luk 24:13

And behold^G2400, on that very^G846 day^G2250 two^G1417 of them were going^G4198 to a village^G2968 named^G3686 Emmaus^G1695, which was [fn]sixty^G1835 stadia^G4712 from Jerusalem^G2419.

Luk 24:14

Luk 24:14And they were talking with each other about all these things which had taken place.

Luk 24:15

Luk 24:15While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself approached and began traveling with them.

Luk 24:16

Luk 24:16But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.

Luk 24:17

Luk 24:17And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad.

Luk 24:18

Luk 24:18One of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, “Are You possibly the only one living near Jerusalem [fn]who does not know about the things that happened here in these days?”

Luk 24:19

Luk 24:19And He said to them, “What sort of things?” And they said to Him, “Those about Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,

Luk 24:20

Luk 24:20and how the chief priests and our rulers handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and crucified Him.

Luk 24:21

Luk 24:21“But we [fn]were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

Luk 24:22

Luk 24:22“But also some women among us left us bewildered. When they were at the tomb early in the morning,

Luk 24:23

Luk 24:23and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.

Luk 24:24

Luk 24:24“And so some of those who were with us went to the tomb, and found it just exactly as the women also had said; but Him they did not see.”

Luk 24:25

Luk 24:25And then He said to them, “[fn]You foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

Luk 24:26

Luk 24:26“Was it not necessary for the [fn]Christ to suffer these things and to come into His glory?”

Luk 24:27

Luk 24:27Then beginning [fn]with Moses and [fn]with all the Prophets, He explained to them the things written about Himself in all the Scriptures.

Luk 24:28

And they approached^G1448 the village^G2968 where^G3757 they were going^G4198, and He gave^G4364 the^G4364 impression^G4364 that He was going^G4198 farther^G4206.

Luk 24:29

Luk 24:29And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day [fn]is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them.

Luk 24:30

Luk 24:30And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them.

Luk 24:31

Luk 24:31And then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from [fn]their sight.

Luk 24:32

Luk 24:32They said to one another, “[fn]Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He was [fn]explaining the Scriptures to us?”

Luk 24:33

Luk 24:33And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them,

Luk 24:34

Luk 24:34saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon!”

Luk 24:35

Luk 24:35They began to relate [fn]their experiences on the road, and how He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread.

Luk 24:36

Now^G1161 while they were telling^G2980 these^G3778 things^G3778, Jesus Himself^G846 suddenly stood^G2476 in their midst^G3319 and *said^G3004 to them, “Peace^G1515 be to you.”

Luk 24:37

Luk 24:37But they were startled and frightened, and thought that they were looking at a spirit.

Luk 24:38

Luk 24:38And He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why are doubts arising in your [fn]hearts?

Luk 24:39

Luk 24:39“See My hands and My feet, that [fn]it is I Myself; touch Me and see, because a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you plainly see that I have.”

Luk 24:40

Luk 24:40And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.

Luk 24:41

Luk 24:41While they still [fn]could not believe it because of their joy and astonishment, He said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”

Luk 24:42

Luk 24:42They served Him a piece of broiled fish;

Luk 24:43

Luk 24:43and He took it and ate it in front of them.

Luk 24:44

Now^G1161 He said^G3004 to them, “These^G3778 are My words^G3056 which^G3739 I spoke^G2980 to you while I was still^G2089 with you, that all^G3956 the things^G3956 that are written^G1125 about^G4012 Me in the Law^G3551 of Moses^G3475 and the Prophets^G4396 and the Psalms^G5568 must^G1163 be fulfilled^G4137.”

Luk 24:45

Luk 24:45Then He opened their [fn]minds to understand the Scriptures,

Luk 24:46

Luk 24:46and He said to them, “So it is written, that the [fn]Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

Luk 24:47

Luk 24:47and that repentance [fn]for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed [fn]in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Luk 24:48

Luk 24:48“You are witnesses of these things.

Luk 24:49

Luk 24:49“And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension

(Mar 16:19, 20; Act 1:9 )

Luk 24:50

And He led^G1806 them out^G1806 as^G2193 far^G2193 as^G2193 Bethany^G963, and He lifted^G1869 up^G1869 His hands^G5495 and blessed^G2127 them.

Luk 24:51

Luk 24:51While He was blessing them, He parted from them and was carried up into heaven.

Luk 24:52

Luk 24:52And they, after worshiping Him, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

Luk 24:53

Luk 24:53and were continually in the temple [fn]praising God.
