Joshua’s Farewell Address

Now it came^H1961 about^H1961 after^H310 many^H7227 days^H3117, when^H310^H834 the LORD^H3068 had given^H5117 rest^H5117 to Israel^H3478 from all^H3605 their enemies^H340 on every^H5439 side^H5439, and Joshua^H3091 was^H2204 old^H2204, advanced^H935 in years^H3117,

Jos 23:2

Jos 23:2that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders, their heads, their judges, and their officers, and said to them, “I am old, advanced in years.

Jos 23:3

Jos 23:3“And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the LORD your God is He who has been fighting for you.

Jos 23:4

Jos 23:4“See, I have apportioned to you these nations which remain as an inheritance for your tribes, with all the nations which I have eliminated, from the Jordan even to the Great Sea toward the [fn]west.

Jos 23:5

Jos 23:5“And the LORD your God, He will thrust them away from you and [fn]drive them from you; and you will take possession of their land, just as the LORD your God [fn]promised you.

Jos 23:6

Jos 23:6“Be very determined, then, to keep and do everything that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, so that you will not turn aside from it to the right or to the left,

Jos 23:7

Jos 23:7so that you will not [fn]associate with these nations, these which remain with you, or mention the name of their gods, or make anyone swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them.

Jos 23:8

Jos 23:8“But you are to cling to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day.

Jos 23:9

Jos 23:9“For the LORD has [fn]driven out great and mighty nations from before you; and as for you, no one has stood against you to this day.

Jos 23:10

Jos 23:10“One of your men puts to flight a thousand, for the LORD your God is He who fights for you, just as He [fn]promised you.

Jos 23:11

Jos 23:11“So take great care for yourselves that you love the LORD your God.

Jos 23:12

Jos 23:12“For if you ever go back and cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain with you, and intermarry with them, so that you [fn]associate with them and they with you,

Jos 23:13

Jos 23:13know with certainty that the LORD your God will not continue to [fn]drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

Jos 23:14

“Now behold^H2009, today^H3117 I am going^H1980 the way^H1870 of all^H3605 the earth^H776, and you know^H3045 in all^H3605 your hearts^H3824 and in all^H3605 your souls^H5315 that not one^H259 word^H1697 of all^H3605 the good^H2896 words^H1697 which^H834 the LORD^H3068 your God^H430 spoke^H1696 concerning^H5921 you has failed^H5307; they all^H3605 have [fn]been fulfilled^H935 for you, not [fn]one^H259 of them has failed^H5307.

Jos 23:15

Jos 23:15“But it will come about that just as all the good words which the LORD your God spoke to you have come upon you, so the LORD will bring upon you [fn]all the warnings, until He has eliminated you from this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

Jos 23:16

Jos 23:16“When you violate the covenant of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and you will perish quickly from the good land which He has given you.”
