Job’s Confession

Job 42:1

Then Job^H347 answered^H6030 the LORD^H3068 and said^H559,

Job 42:2

“I know^H3045 that You can^H3201 do all^H3605 things^H3605,

And that no^H3808 plan^H4209 is^H1219 impossible^H1219 for You.

Job 42:3

‘Who^H4310 is this^H2088 who conceals^H5956 advice^H6098 without^H1097 knowledge^H1847?’

Therefore^H3651 I have declared^H5046 that which I did not understand^H995,

Things^H6381 too^H4480 wonderful^H6381 for me, which I do not know^H3045.

Job 42:4

‘Please^H4994 listen^H8085, and I will speak^H1696;

I will ask^H7592 You, and You instruct^H3045 me.’

Job 42:5

“I have heard^H8085 of You by the hearing^H8088 of the ear^H241;

But now^H6258 my eye^H5869 sees^H7200 You;

Job 42:6

Therefore^H5921^H3651 I retract^H3988,

And I repent^H5162, sitting on dust^H6083 and ashes^H665.”

God Is Displeased with Job’s Friends

Job 42:7

It came^H1961 about^H1961 after^H310 the LORD^H3068 had spoken^H1696 these^H428 words^H1697 to Job^H347, that the LORD^H3068 said^H559 to Eliphaz^H464 the Temanite^H8489, “My wrath^H639 is kindled^H2734 against you and against your two^H8147 friends^H7453, because^H3588 you have not spoken^H1696 of Me what^H3559 is^H3559 trustworthy^H3559, as My servant^H5650 Job^H347 has.

Job 42:8

Job 42:8“Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves, and My servant Job will pray for you. For I will [fn]accept him so as not to do with you as your foolishness deserves, because you have not spoken of Me what is trustworthy, as My servant Job has.”

Job 42:9

Job 42:9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD told them; and the LORD [fn]accepted Job.

God Restores Job’s Fortunes

Job 42:10

The LORD^H3068 also restored^H7725 the fortunes^H7622 of Job^H347 when he prayed^H6419 for his friends^H7453, and the LORD^H3068 increased^H3254 double^H4932 all^H3605 that Job^H347 had.

Job 42:11

Job 42:11Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all who had known him before came to him, and they ate bread with him in his house; and they sympathized with him and comforted him for all the adversities that the LORD had brought on him. And each one gave him a [fn]piece of money, and each a ring of gold.

Job 42:12

Job 42:12The LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

Job 42:13

Job 42:13He also had seven sons and three daughters.

Job 42:14

Job 42:14He named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch.

Job 42:15

Job 42:15In all the land no women were found as beautiful as Job’s daughters; and their father gave them inheritances among their brothers.

Job 42:16

Job 42:16After this, Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations.

Job 42:17

Job 42:17And Job died, an old man and full of days.
