“I will say ^H559 to God ^H433, ‘Do not condemn ^H7561 me;

Let me know ^H3045 why ^H5921 H4100 You contend ^H7378 with me.

‘Is it [fn]right ^H2896 for You indeed ^H3588 to oppress ^H6231,

To reject ^H3988 the work ^H3018 of Your hands ^H3709,

And [fn]to look ^H3313 favorably ^H3313 on the plan ^H6098 of the wicked ^H7563?

‘Do You have eyes ^H5869 of flesh ^H1320?

Or ^H518 do You see ^H7200 as mankind ^H582 sees ^H7200?

‘Are Your days ^H3117 like the days ^H3117 of a mortal ^H582,

Or ^H518 Your years ^H8141 like a man’s ^H1397 year ^H3117,

That You should search ^H1245 for my guilt ^H5771

And carefully ^H1875 seek ^H1875 my sin ^H2403?

‘According ^H5921 to Your knowledge ^H1847 I am ^H7561 indeed ^H3588 not guilty ^H7561,

Yet there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H5337 to save ^H5337 me from Your hand ^H3027.

‘Your hands ^H3027 fashioned ^H6087 and made ^H6213 me [fn]altogether ^H3162 H5439,

Yet would You destroy ^H1104 me?

‘Remember ^H2142 that You have made ^H6213 me as clay ^H2563;

Yet would You turn ^H7725 me into dust ^H6083 again ^H7725?

‘Did You not pour ^H5413 me out ^H5413 like milk ^H2461,

And curdle ^H7087 me like cheese ^H1385,

Clothe ^H3847 me with skin ^H5785 and flesh ^H1320,

And intertwine ^H5526 me with bones ^H6106 and tendons ^H1517?

‘You have granted ^H6213 me life ^H2416 and [fn]goodness ^H2617;

And Your care ^H6486 has guarded ^H8104 my spirit ^H7307.

‘Yet You have concealed ^H6845 these ^H428 things ^H428 in Your heart ^H3824;

I know ^H3045 that this ^H2088 is within ^H5973 You:

If ^H518 I have sinned ^H2398, You will take ^H8104 note ^H8104 of me,

And will not acquit ^H5352 me of my guilt ^H5771.

‘If ^H518 I am ^H7561 wicked ^H7561, woe ^H480 to me!

But if I am ^H6663 righteous ^H6663, I dare not lift ^H5375 up ^H5375 my head ^H7218.

I am full ^H7649 of shame ^H7036, and [fn]conscious ^H7202 of my misery ^H6040.

‘And should my head be high ^H1342, You would hunt ^H6679 me like a lion ^H7826;

And You would show ^H6381 Your power ^H6381 against me again ^H7725.

‘You renew ^H2318 Your witnesses ^H5707 against ^H5048 me

And increase ^H7235 Your anger ^H3708 toward ^H5973 me;

[fn]Hardship ^H2487 after hardship ^H6635 is with me.

‘Why ^H4100 then did You bring ^H3318 me out ^H3318 of the womb ^H7358?

If only I had died ^H1478 and no ^H3808 eye ^H5869 had seen ^H7200 me!

‘I should have been ^H1961 as though ^H834 I had not been ^H1961,

Brought ^H2986 from womb ^H990 to tomb ^H6913.’

“Would He not leave ^H2308 my few ^H4592 days ^H3117 alone ^H2308?

[fn]Withdraw ^H7896 from me so that I may have ^H1082 a little ^H4592 cheerfulness ^H1082

Before ^H2962 I go ^H1980—and I shall not return ^H7725—

To the land ^H776 of darkness ^H2822 and deep ^H6757 shadow ^H6757,

The land ^H776 of utter ^H5890 gloom ^H5890 like ^H3644 darkness ^H652 itself,

Of deep ^H6757 shadow ^H6757 without ^H3808 order ^H5468,

And it shines ^H3313 like ^H3644 darkness ^H652.”
