Oppression by Philistines and Ammonites

Now after^H310 Abimelech^H40 died, Tola^H8439 the son^H1121 of Puah^H6312, the son^H1121 of Dodo^H1734, a man^H376 of Issachar^H3485, rose^H6965 up^H6965 to save^H3467 Israel^H3478; and he lived^H3427 in Shamir^H8069 in the hill^H2022 country^H2022 of Ephraim^H669.

Jdg 10:2

Jdg 10:2He judged Israel for twenty-three years. Then he died and was buried in Shamir.

Jdg 10:3

After^H310 him, Jair^H2971 the Gileadite^H1569 rose^H6965 up^H6965 and judged^H8199 Israel^H3478 for twenty-two^H6242^H8147 years^H8141.

Jdg 10:4

Jdg 10:4And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkeys, and they had thirty cities [fn]in the land of Gilead that are called [fn]Havvoth-jair to this day.

Jdg 10:5

Jdg 10:5And Jair died and was buried in Kamon.

Jdg 10:6

Then the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 again^H3254 did^H6213 evil^H7451 in the sight^H5869 of the LORD^H3068, and they served^H5647 the Baals^H1168 and the Ashtaroth^H6252, the gods^H430 of Aram^H758, the gods^H430 of Sidon^H6721, the gods^H430 of Moab^H4124, the gods^H430 of the sons^H1121 of Ammon^H5983, and the gods^H430 of the Philistines^H6430; so they abandoned^H5800 the LORD^H3068 and did not serve^H5647 Him.

Jdg 10:7

Jdg 10:7And the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hands of the Philistines, and into the hands of the sons of Ammon.

Jdg 10:8

Jdg 10:8And they [fn]afflicted and oppressed the sons of Israel [fn]that year; for eighteen years they oppressed all the sons of Israel who were beyond the Jordan, [fn]in Gilead in the land of the Amorites.

Jdg 10:9

Jdg 10:9And the sons of Ammon crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was in great difficulty.

Jdg 10:10

Then the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 cried^H2199 out^H2199 to the LORD^H3068, saying^H559, “We have sinned^H2398 against You, for indeed, we have abandoned^H5800 our God^H430 and served^H5647 the Baals^H1168.”

Jdg 10:11

Jdg 10:11And the LORD said to the sons of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians, the Amorites, the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines?

Jdg 10:12

Jdg 10:12“And when the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites oppressed you, you cried out to Me, and I saved you from their hands.

Jdg 10:13

Jdg 10:13“Yet you abandoned Me and served other gods; therefore I will no longer save you.

Jdg 10:14

Jdg 10:14“Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.”

Jdg 10:15

Jdg 10:15Then the sons of Israel said to the LORD, “We have sinned, do to us whatever [fn]seems good to You; only please save us this day.”

Jdg 10:16

Jdg 10:16So they removed the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD; and [fn]He could no longer endure the misery of Israel.

Jdg 10:17

Then the sons^H1121 of Ammon^H5983 were summoned^H6817, and they camped^H2583 in Gilead^H1568. And the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 gathered^H622 together and camped^H2583 in Mizpah^H4709.

Jdg 10:18

Jdg 10:18And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said to one another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the sons of Ammon? He shall become head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
