Misuse of Riches

Come^G33 now^G3568, you rich^G4145 people^G4145, weep^G2799 and howl^G3649 for your miseries^G5004 which are coming^G1904 upon^G1904 you.

Jas 5:2

Jas 5:2Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten.

Jas 5:3

Jas 5:3Your gold and your silver have corroded, and their corrosion will [fn]serve as a testimony against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!

Jas 5:4

Jas 5:4Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord [fn]of armies.

Jas 5:5

Jas 5:5You have [fn]lived for pleasure on the earth and lived luxuriously; you have [fn]fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

Jas 5:6

Jas 5:6You have condemned and [fn]put to death the righteous person; he offers you no resistance.

Exhortation

Jas 5:7

Therefore^G3767 be^G3114 patient^G3114, brothers^G80 and sisters, until^G2193 the coming^G3952 of the Lord^G2962. The farmer^G1092 waits^G1551 for^G1551 the precious^G5093 produce^G2590 of the soil^G1093, being^G3114 patient^G3114 about^G1909 it, until^G2193 [fn]it gets^G2983 the early^G4406 and late^G3797 rains.

Jas 5:8

Jas 5:8You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

Jas 5:9

Jas 5:9Do not [fn]complain, brothers and sisters, against one another, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing [fn]right at the [fn]door.

Jas 5:10

Jas 5:10As an example, brothers and sisters, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

Jas 5:11

Jas 5:11We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the [fn]endurance of Job and have seen the [fn]outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.

Jas 5:12

But above^G4253 all^G3956, my brothers^G80 and sisters, do not swear^G3660, either^G3383 by heaven^G3772 or^G3383 by earth^G1093 or^G3383 with any^G5100 other^G243 oath^G3727; but [fn]your yes^G3483 is to be yes^G3483, and your no^G3756, no^G3756, so^G2443 that^G2443 you do not fall^G4098 under^G5259 judgment^G2920.

Jas 5:13

Is anyone^G5100 among^G1722 you suffering^G2553? Then he must pray^G4336. Is anyone^G5100 cheerful^G2114? He is to sing^G5567 praises^G5567.

Jas 5:14

Jas 5:14Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, [fn]anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;

Jas 5:15

Jas 5:15and the prayer of faith will [fn]restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, [fn]they will be forgiven him.

Jas 5:16

Jas 5:16Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A [fn]prayer of a righteous person, when it is [fn]brought about, can accomplish much.

Jas 5:17

Jas 5:17Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed [fn]earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

Jas 5:18

Jas 5:18Then he prayed again, and the sky [fn]poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

Jas 5:19

My brothers^G80 and sisters, if^G1437 anyone^G5100 among^G1722 you strays^G4105 from the truth^G225 and someone^G5100 turns^G1994 him back^G1994,

Jas 5:20

Jas 5:20let him know that the one who has turned a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
