Isaiah 7 :: New American Standard Bible 2020 (NASB20)

War against Jerusalem

(2Ki 16:5; 2Ch 28:5–15 )

Now it came^H1961 about^H1961 in the days^H3117 of Ahaz^H271, the son^H1121 of Jotham^H3147, the son^H1121 of Uzziah^H5818, king^H4428 of Judah^H3063, that Rezin^H7526 the king^H4428 of Aram^H758 and Pekah^H6492 the son^H1121 of Remaliah^H7425, king^H4428 of Israel^H3478, went^H5927 up^H5927 to Jerusalem^H3389 to wage war^H4421 against^H5921 it, but could^H3201 not [fn]conquer^H3898^H5921 it.

Isa 7:2

Isa 7:2When it was reported to the house of David, saying, “The Arameans have taken a stand by Ephraim,” his heart and the hearts of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake from the wind.

Isa 7:3

Then the LORD^H3068 said^H559 to Isaiah^H3470, “Go^H3318 out^H3318 now^H4994 to meet^H7122 Ahaz^H271, you and your son^H1121 [fn]Shear-jashub^H7610, at the end^H7097 of the conduit^H8585 of the upper^H5945 pool^H1295, on the road^H4546 to the [fn]fuller’s^H3526 field^H7704,

Isa 7:4

Isa 7:4and say to him, ‘Take care and be calm, have no fear and do not be fainthearted because of these two stumps of smoldering logs, on account of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.

Isa 7:5

Isa 7:5‘Because Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying,

Isa 7:6

Isa 7:6“Let’s go up against Judah and [fn]terrorize it, and take it for ourselves by assault and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,”

Isa 7:7

Isa 7:7this is what the Lord [fn]GOD says: “It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass.

Isa 7:8

Isa 7:8“For the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin (now within another sixty-five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces, so that it is no longer a people),

Isa 7:9

Isa 7:9and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you certainly shall not [fn]last.”’”

The Child Immanuel

Isa 7:10

Then the LORD^H3068 spoke^H1696 again^H3254 to Ahaz^H271, saying^H559,

Isa 7:11

Isa 7:11“Ask for a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; [fn]make it deep as Sheol or high as [fn]heaven.”

Isa 7:12

Isa 7:12But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I put the LORD to the test!”

Isa 7:13

Isa 7:13Then he said, “Listen now, house of David! Is it too trivial a thing for you to [fn]try the patience of men, that you will [fn]try the patience of my God as well?

Isa 7:14

Isa 7:14“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the [fn]virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will name Him [fn]Immanuel.

Isa 7:15

Isa 7:15“He will eat [fn]curds and honey [fn]at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good.

Isa 7:16

Isa 7:16“For before the boy knows enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be abandoned.

Trials to Come for Judah

Isa 7:17

Isa 7:17“The LORD will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim separated from Judah—the days of the king of Assyria.”

Isa 7:18

On that day^H3117 the LORD^H3068 will whistle^H8319 for the fly^H2070 that is in the [fn]remotest^H7097 part^H7097 of the canals^H2975 of Egypt^H4714 and for the bee^H1682 that is in the land^H776 of Assyria^H804.

Isa 7:19

Isa 7:19They will all come and settle on the steep [fn]ravines, on the ledges of the cliffs, on all the thorn bushes, and on all the watering places.

Isa 7:20

On that day^H3117 the Lord^H136 will shave^H1548 with a razor^H8593, hired^H7917 from regions^H5676 beyond^H5676 the Euphrates River^H5104 (that is, with the king^H4428 of Assyria^H804), the head^H7218 and the hair^H8181 of the legs^H7272; and it will also^H1571 remove^H5595 the beard^H2206.

Isa 7:21

Now on that day^H3117 a person^H376 may keep^H2421 alive^H2421 only a heifer^H5697^H1241 and a pair^H8147 of sheep^H6629;

Isa 7:22

Isa 7:22and because of the abundance of the milk produced he will eat [fn]curds, for everyone who is left within the land will eat [fn]curds and honey.

Isa 7:23

And it will come^H1961 about^H1961 on that day^H3117, that every^H3605 place^H4725 where^H834^H8033 there used to be a thousand^H505 vines^H1612, valued at a thousand^H505 shekels of silver^H3701, will become^H1961 briars^H8068 and thorns^H7898.

Isa 7:24

Isa 7:24People will come there with bows and arrows, because all the land will be briars and thorns.

Isa 7:25

Isa 7:25As for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the plow, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for [fn]pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.
