Help Not in Egypt but in God

Isa 31:1

Woe^H1945 to those who go^H3381 down^H3381 to Egypt^H4714 for help^H5833

And rely^H8172 on horses^H5483,

And trust^H982 in chariots^H7393 because^H3588 they are many^H7227

And in horsemen^H6571 because^H3588 they are^H6105 very^H3966 strong^H6105,

But they do not look^H8159 to the Holy^H6918 One^H6918 of Israel^H3478, nor^H3808 seek^H1875 the LORD^H3068!

Isa 31:2

Yet He also^H1571 is wise^H2450 and will bring^H935 disaster^H7451,

And does not retract^H5493 His words^H1697,

But will arise^H6965 against^H5921 the house^H1004 of evildoers^H7489,

And against^H5921 the help^H5833 of the workers^H6466 of injustice^H205.

Isa 31:3

Now the Egyptians^H4714 are human^H120 and not God^H410,

And their horses^H5483 are flesh^H1320 and not spirit^H7307;

So the LORD^H3068 will stretch^H5186 out^H5186 His hand^H3027,

And any helper^H5826 will stumble^H3782,

And one who is helped^H5826 will fall^H5307.

And all^H3605 of them will come^H3615 to^H3615 an^H3615 end^H3615 together^H3162.

Isa 31:4

For this^H3541 is^H3541 what^H3541 the LORD^H3068 says^H559 to me:

“As the lion^H738 or the young^H3715 lion^H3715 growls^H1897 over^H5921 his prey^H2964,

Against^H5921 which^H834 a band^H4393 of shepherds^H7462 is called^H7121 out^H7121,

And he will not be terrified^H2865 at their voice^H6963 nor^H3808 disturbed^H6031 at their noise^H1995,

So^H3651 will the LORD^H3068 of armies^H6635 come^H3381 down^H3381 to wage^H6633 war^H6633 on Mount^H2022 Zion^H6726 and on its hill^H1389.”

Isa 31:5

Like [fn]flying^H5774 birds^H6833 so^H3651 the LORD^H3068 of armies^H6635 will protect^H1598 Jerusalem^H3389.

He will protect^H1598 and save^H5337 it;

He will pass^H6452 over^H6452 and rescue^H4422 it.

Isa 31:6

Return^H7725 to Him against whom^H834 [fn]you have been profoundly^H6009 obstinate^H5627, you sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478.

Isa 31:7

Isa 31:7For on that day every person will reject his silver idols and his gold idols, which your hands have made for you as a sin.

Isa 31:8

And the Assyrian^H804 will fall^H5307 by a sword^H2719 not wielded by a man^H376,

And a sword^H2719 not of man^H120 will devour^H398 him.

So he will [fn]not escape^H5127 the sword^H2719,

And his young^H970 men^H970 will become^H1961 forced^H4522 laborers^H4522.

Isa 31:9

“His rock^H5553 will pass^H5674 away^H5674 because^H4480 of panic^H4032,

And his officers^H8269 will be terrified^H2865 by the flag^H5251,”

Declares^H5002 the LORD^H3068, whose^H834 fire^H217 is in Zion^H6726 and whose furnace^H8574 is in Jerusalem^H3389.
