Gen 2:2By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Gen 2:3

Gen 2:3Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created [fn]and made.

The Creation of Man and Woman

Gen 2:4

[fn]This^H428 is the account^H8435 of the heavens^H8064 and the earth^H776 when they were created^H1254, in the day^H3117 that the LORD^H3068 God^H430 made^H6213 earth^H776 and heaven^H8064.

Gen 2:5

Gen 2:5Now no shrub of the field was yet on the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to [fn]cultivate the ground.

Gen 2:6

Gen 2:6But a [fn]mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole [fn]surface of the ground.

Gen 2:7

Gen 2:7Then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living [fn]person.

Gen 2:8

Gen 2:8The LORD God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed.

Gen 2:9

Gen 2:9Out of the ground the LORD God caused every tree to grow that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Gen 2:10

Now a river^H5104 [fn]flowed^H3318 out^H3318 of Eden^H5731 to water^H8248 the garden^H1588; and from there^H8033 it divided^H6504 and became^H1961 four^H702 [fn]rivers^H7218.

Gen 2:11

Gen 2:11The name of the first is Pishon; it [fn]flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.

Gen 2:12

Gen 2:12The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there as well.

Gen 2:13

Gen 2:13The name of the second river is Gihon; it [fn]flows around the whole land of Cush.

Gen 2:14

Gen 2:14The name of the third river is [fn]Tigris; it [fn]flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the [fn]Euphrates.

Gen 2:15

Then the LORD^H3068 God^H430 took^H3947 the man^H120 and put^H5117 him in the Garden^H1588 of Eden^H5731 to cultivate^H5647 it and tend^H8104 it.

Gen 2:16

Gen 2:16The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may freely eat;

Gen 2:17

Gen 2:17but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not [fn]eat, for on the day that you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Gen 2:18

Then the LORD^H3068 God^H430 said^H559, “It is not good^H2896 for the man^H120 to be alone^H905; I will make^H6213 him a helper^H5828 [fn]suitable^H5048 for him.”

Gen 2:19

Gen 2:19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.

Gen 2:20

Gen 2:20The man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field, but for [fn]Adam there was not found a helper [fn]suitable for him.

Gen 2:21

Gen 2:21So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.

Gen 2:22

Gen 2:22And the LORD God [fn]fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man.

Gen 2:23

Gen 2:23Then the man said,

“At^H6471 last^H6471 this^H2088 is bone^H6106 of my bones^H6106,

And flesh^H1320 of my flesh^H1320;

[fn]She shall be called^H7121 [fn]‘woman^H802,’

Because^H3588 [fn]she was taken^H3947 out of [fn]man^H376.”

Gen 2:24

For^H5921 this^H5921^H3651 reason^H5921^H3651 a man^H376 shall leave^H5800 his father^H1 and his mother^H517, and be joined^H1692 to his wife^H802; and they shall become^H1961 one^H259 flesh^H1320.

Gen 2:25

Gen 2:25And the man and his wife were both naked, but they were not ashamed.
