Genesis 13 :: New American Standard Bible 2020 (NASB20)

Abram and Lot

So Abram^H87 went^H5927 up^H5927 from Egypt^H4714 to the [fn]Negev^H5045, he and his wife^H802 and all^H3605 that belonged to him, and Lot^H3876 with him.

Gen 13:2

Now Abram^H87 was very^H3966 rich^H3515 in livestock^H4735, silver^H3701, and gold^H2091.

Gen 13:3

Gen 13:3And he went [fn]on his journeys from the [fn]Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

Gen 13:4

Gen 13:4to the place of the altar which he had made there previously; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

Gen 13:5

Gen 13:5Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks, herds, and tents.

Gen 13:6

Gen 13:6And the land could not [fn]support both of them [fn]while living together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.

Gen 13:7

Gen 13:7And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land at that time.

Gen 13:8

So Abram^H87 said^H559 to Lot^H3876, “Please^H4994 let there be no^H408 strife^H4808 between^H996 you and me, nor between^H996 my herdsmen^H7462 and your herdsmen^H7462, for we are relatives^H251!

Gen 13:9

Gen 13:9“Is the entire land not before you? Please separate from me; if you choose the left, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right, then I will go to the left.”

Gen 13:10

Gen 13:10Lot raised his eyes and saw all the [fn]vicinity of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt [fn]going toward Zoar.

Gen 13:11

Gen 13:11So Lot chose for himself all the [fn]vicinity of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. So they separated from each other.

Gen 13:12

Gen 13:12Abram [fn]settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot [fn]settled in the cities of the [fn]vicinity of the Jordan, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.

Gen 13:13

Gen 13:13Now the men of Sodom were [fn]exceedingly wicked sinners against the LORD.

Gen 13:14

The LORD^H3068 said^H559 to Abram^H87, after^H310 Lot^H3876 had separated^H6504 from him, “Now^H4994 raise^H5375 your eyes^H5869 and look^H7200 from the place^H4725 where^H834^H8033 you are, northward^H6828 and southward^H5045, and eastward^H6924 and westward^H3220;

Gen 13:15

Gen 13:15for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your [fn]descendants forever.

Gen 13:16

Gen 13:16“I will make your [fn]descendants as plentiful as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can count the dust of the earth, then your [fn]descendants could also be counted.

Gen 13:17

Gen 13:17“Arise, walk about in the land through its length and width; for I will give it to you.”

Gen 13:18

Gen 13:18Then Abram moved his tent and came and lived by the [fn]oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron; and there he built an altar to the LORD.
