Now^G1161 I say^G3004, as long^G5550 as the heir^G2818 is a [fn]child^G3516, he does not differ^G1308 at^G3762 all^G3762 from a slave^G1401, although he is [fn]owner^G2962 of everything^G3956,

Gal 4:2

Gal 4:2but he is under guardians and [fn]managers until the [fn]date set by the father.

Gal 4:3

Gal 4:3So we too, when we were children, were held in bondage under the [fn]elementary principles of the world.

Gal 4:4

Gal 4:4But when the fullness of the time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under [fn]the Law,

Gal 4:5

Gal 4:5so that He might redeem those who were under [fn]the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons and daughters.

Gal 4:6

Gal 4:6Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba! [fn]Father!”

Gal 4:7

Gal 4:7Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir [fn]through God.

Gal 4:8

However^G235 at that time^G5119, when you did not know^G6063 God^G2316, you were slaves^G1398 to those^G3588 which by nature^G5449 are not gods^G2316.

Gal 4:9

Gal 4:9But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless [fn]elementary principles, to which you want to be enslaved all over again?

Gal 4:10

Gal 4:10You meticulously observe days and months and seasons and years.

Gal 4:11

Gal 4:11I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored [fn]over you in vain.

Gal 4:12

I beg^G1189 of you, brothers^G80 and sisters, become^G1096 as I am, for I also^G2532 have become as you are. You have done^G91 me no^G3762 wrong^G91;

Gal 4:13

Gal 4:13but you know that it was because of a [fn]bodily illness that I preached the gospel to you the [fn]first time;

Gal 4:14

Gal 4:14and you did not despise that which was a trial to you in my [fn]bodily condition, nor express contempt, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.

Gal 4:15

Gal 4:15Where then is [fn]that sense of blessing you had? For I testify about you that, if possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.

Gal 4:16

Gal 4:16So have I become your enemy by [fn]telling you the truth?

Gal 4:17

Gal 4:17They eagerly seek you, not [fn]in a commendable way, but they want to shut you out so that you will seek them.

Gal 4:18

Gal 4:18But it is good always to be eagerly sought [fn]in a commendable way, and not only when I am present with you.

Gal 4:19

Gal 4:19My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you—

Gal 4:20

Gal 4:20but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone of voice, for I am at a loss about you!

Gal 4:21

Tell^G3004 me, you who want^G2309 to be under^G5259 law^G3551, do you not listen^G191 to the Law^G3551?

Gal 4:22

Gal 4:22For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and one by the free woman.

Gal 4:23

Gal 4:23But the son by the slave woman [fn]was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.

Gal 4:24

Gal 4:24 [fn]This is speaking allegorically, for these women are two covenants: one coming from Mount Sinai giving birth to children [fn]who are to be slaves; [fn]she is Hagar.

Gal 4:25

Gal 4:25Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is enslaved with her children.

Gal 4:26

Gal 4:26But the Jerusalem above is free; [fn]she is our mother.

Gal 4:27

Gal 4:27For it is written:

“REJOICE^G2165, INFERTILE^G4723 ONE, YOU WHO DO NOT GIVE^G5088 BIRTH^G5088;

BREAK^G4486 FORTH^G4486 AND SHOUT^G994, YOU WHO ARE^G5605 NOT IN^G5605 LABOR^G5605;

FOR THE CHILDREN^G5043 OF THE DESOLATE^G2048 ONE ARE MORE^G4183 NUMEROUS^G4183

THAN^G2228 THOSE OF THE ONE WHO HAS^G2192 A HUSBAND^G435.”

Gal 4:28

And you, brothers^G80 and sisters, like^G2596 Isaac^G2464, are children^G5043 of promise^G1860.

Gal 4:29

Gal 4:29But as at that time the son who was born according to the flesh persecuted the one who was born according to the Spirit, so it is even now.

Gal 4:30

Gal 4:30But what does the Scripture say?

“DRIVE^G1544 OUT THE SLAVE^G3814 WOMAN^G3814 AND HER SON^G5207,

FOR THE SON^G5207 OF THE SLAVE^G3814 WOMAN^G3814 SHALL NOT BE^G2816 AN^G2816 HEIR^G2816 WITH THE SON^G5207 OF THE FREE^G1658 WOMAN^G1658.”

Gal 4:31

So^G1352 then^G1352, brothers^G80 and sisters, we are not children^G5043 of a slave^G3814 woman^G3814, but of the free^G1658 woman^G1658.
